Food Network In The News

  • The New York City Wine & Food Festival is this weekend in New York City.  Pretty much every Food Network chef/personality will be in attendance and I will try to post some updates after the weekend about the festival. (NYCWFF)

  • Anne Burrell left some fans angry after her recent live show at Turning Stone Casino because she gave rude answers in a Q&A and left right after an hour was complete. (Link)

  • Alton Brown has partnered with Hook + Albert to design and sell bow ties, which go on sale Oct. 21st.  According to an interview on Zagat, there are only 100 of each style, meaning 500 total bow ties will be for sale.
  •
  • Alton Brown's live tour is set to start tomorrow with the first date being in Palm Desert, CA.  Visit his tour site for more dates.

  • Guy's Grocery Games premieres Sunday Night at 8pm on the Food Network.

  • Tyler Florence has signed on with Stouffer's to try to help increase their macaroni and cheese sales (Link)

  • Amanda Freitag's restaurant in New York City is about five weeks from opening. (Eater)

  1. Can't wait for Damaris Phillips' new show Southern at Heart on Oct. 27th. Outgoing, unpretentious personality and top-notch Chef. Spread the word to all yer Twitter followers. Gonna be awesome.

  2. Anne comes across too sarcastic and condescending for me. Even before this appearance of hers. Appears that success has given her a snooty attitude. She acts too uppity.
To any new Food Network employees: learn the difference between connecting with informal honesty vs. sarcasm. Don't let money and success and having fans cause conceit.

  4. Will Alton ever do a new show where cooks, rather than being a judge?

  5. He plans on filming more Good Eats type episodes, however, they will be online only.

  6. Watching Big daddy's House on Food Network TV. Aaron McCargo is FN's unsung hero. This guy's food *always* looks mouth-watering good. Wish he was on on the evening.

  7. Wishing Food Network would have more cooking shows after 7pm and not keep pushing so many competitions and reruns.

  8. Why is it that so many of the threads/posts in the FN-Dish Blog have 3 or less comments? i.e. Guy's Grocery Games and the newest Anne Burrell thread. Looks as if no one is interested. ?

  9. I don't understand why Food Network is so eagerly pushing Anne Burrell's new cookbook but not a mention of Scott Conant's? I bought a copy of his book and it's absolutely magnificent. Meantime, I have a ticket for Alton Brown's show next week and I can't wait!

  11. The article about Anne Burrell includes a great story about how good Robert Irvine was to his fans at an appearance, particularly to one kid who he brought up on stage to make a sandwich with him. This makes me appreciate Robert Irvine even more!

  12. Went to Alton's live tour tonight in AZ. It was a lot of fun, especially the demos. Someone in the Q&A asked about Justin Warner and he said not to worry, he has plans for Justin. =)

  13. I'm hoping "Southern at Heart" is good because I like instructional shows but find that few of them on FN are watchable. Sick of all the competitions - why does everything have to be a war? Guy Fieri and Anne Burrell are ridiculous. Personally, I can't relate to people who find it necessary to scream all the time and/or behave like cartoon characters (remember Heat Miser and Snow Miser). Please FN, put on more REAL people who use real recipes: Ina Garten, Ree Drummond. And I don't care whether she's a pioneer woman or not. Her family seems nice, her kids are cute, and I enjoy her recipes.
