'Beat Bobby Flay' Picked Up - Now Casting

Back in August, there was a pilot of Beat Bobby Flay that aired on the Food Network, which many people seemed to like.  It now is confirmed that the Food Network has decided to green light the show and will produce the first season.

Beat Bobby Flay is casting right now and is looking for ideally 8 chefs in the tri-state area and 8 chefs that they would travel to.  That means there will be 8 episodes for the season of Beat Bobby Flay, and the season should air in January on the Food Network.

I reached out to Jeff Mauro to see if him and Alex Guarnaschelli would be participating in all of the episodes (they were in the pilot), and he responded "Not sure, regardless, would donate a love handle to charity to have the opportunity to work w my boo guarnaschelli again!"

So, we will have to wait and see if they use Alex and Jeff or use different people in the episodes.

If you are interested in applying for the show, the flyer with information is below:

  1. I enjoyed the pilot so I'm looking forward to it. Of course, I could happily watch Bobby read the phone book...

  2. Bobby's "Throwdown" was a good show that I liked watching. Usually I like cooking shows more than competition shows. This new one, should be good, though. Because:
    1. Bobby himself is cooking, and not just stuffing his face or commenting on someone else.
    2. I like watching 1-person-against-Bobby more than 3 or 4 cooks against each other..i.e...Chopped (but that's just personal taste. The big exception to that, is FN Star, which I totally love).

Similar to Throwdown. I think I'll like it. :) You gotta be good to beat Bobby Flay. Can they do it?

  4. Kind of unique, and the only time in my life that I was rooting for and hoping for Penny Davivi to win a food network competition.

  5. Id say Iron Chef is like the olympics of cooking competitions

Chopped is the sports event of cooking competitions

This show is like big brother or gameshow of cooking comps.. probably entertaining, i still dont care for it but good for you all that do.

  6. I love watching the after-shows too. Seeing the judges' reactions to what went on is great. Jet Tila is an AWESOME judge too. His show and after-show comments and reactions are great!

  7. Did you not see the recent article about a featured restaurant that faked the owner's name? Just because they find an actual existing establishment at which to film doesn't mean anything else you see has any basis in reality.

  8. The people who complain about this show are the same ones who complain about Chopped and Iron Chef that there is nothing instructional gained. But, is there anything "instructional" with other competition shows such as SYTYCD, AI, AGT, ANTM, XF, or in it's glory days, FearFactor? They're entertainment. Like the auction items, the mindless crap-talking is for entertainment to get in the viewers head more than the competing chefs. I won't go sonfar as to say it is an "unreality" show in that it is staged, scripted and predetermined, but at the same time I can say rather confidently the chefs pay no real mind and it is all for the camera, hence the aftershow, with the outtakes and the judge (allegedly) "being clued in on the sabotages."

  13. Basically, but I don't have a problem with that. I love Throwdown.

  14. It's not a bad show...It's Throwdown without the long road trips and the two assistants in the test studio.

  15. This isn't a bad show... It's a modified version of Throwdown (which was pretty good), without the long roadies and the two assistants.

  17. True. It's a long journey from a manager with questionable hiring practices to one who keeps nonexistent employees on the payroll and collects their checks for himself.

  18. Oh, I know it's staged, but the restaurants are real. I've added a couple to my culinary bucket list. I watch it as entertainment and don't worry about it.

  19. Cooking Channel has a clone of Food Court Wars with food trucks. It's called Food Truck Face-Off and starts with four would-be entrepreneurs pitching their concepts to a judging panel, with two being greenlighted to run food trucks and the winner—with the highest profits—getting the truck for 1 year.

  20. What's become interesting now is that the judges have started guessing what the sabotages were, and they're often wrong. For instance, in the burrito challenge, Jet Tila guessed that the gal who did the lettuce wraps was deprived of her tortillas when, in fact, she chose not to get tortillas and actually had no sabotages when she was eliminated.
