Rachael Vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off - Season 3 Cast Announced

Now that Rachael Vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off is over, the Food Network has announced the cast of the third season of Rachael Vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off.

  • Judy Gold (actress, comedian - has appeared on celebrity edition of Chopped)
  • Florence Henderson (actress - The Brady Bunch, singer)
  • Penn Jillette (magician, comedian)
  • Chris Kattan (comedian, actor - SNL)
  • Jake Pavelka (reality star, The Bachelor)
  • Tiffany (singer, actress)
  • Vanilla Ice (pop icon, rapper and reality star)
  • Herschel Walker (former NFL player, Heisman Trophy winner, MMA fighter)
The 6-episode season will not begin until January, so you have some time to prepare yourself.  Lou Diamond Phillips won the first season, and Dean McDermott won the second season and actually went on to host Chopped Canada.

As a commenter pointed out, the last time(probably) Chris Kattan and Vanilla Ice were in a room together, things got a little crazy.  Vanilla Ice destroyed the set on the MTV show 25 Lame, and had Chris screaming "No Vanilla! Vanilla!"   Video is after the break:

  1. I'm surprised Chris Kattan would agree to be in the same room as Vanilla Ice after he went mental on an MTV set and nearly bashed his head in with a baseball bat years ago. He must need the money and exposure really badly. Actually why else would anyone do this show unless they were desperate.

  2. Good call. I have updated the post with that video

  3. Yes. Always good when people actually watch the show. I wouldn't want to see Food Network Star become like American Idol. People were already complaining in the season nine blog about too much "reality tv", hype, losing credibility, etc. As for weekly voting, there was a weekly fan poll, and almost no one believed it had any accuracy. I prefer getting down to "the final 4", then one big fan vote at the end. Weekly, can lead to whoever has the most facebook friends "stuffing the ballot box." Its a lil' too easy for anyone to just click a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. I wish more people who watch, would also post on the Blog. At least we are. (wink)

  4. Well, Florence, Penn and, I think, Jake have been on Dancing with the Stars, so it looks like they are making the reality show circuit. Gotta make a living.

  5. Go, Crouton. Damaris has charisma, which was evident in the first show. She's the one I was always interested in. Even with the wiggle, I thought she was funny and charming and unself-conscious,which makes for good television. She let it all hang out - which was refreshing next to Stacy, who seemed primed to win. When Damaris screwed up,she acknowledged it. I wish her well.

  6. I liked Emily - saw her as a sous chef on Cupcake Wars a few months ago.

  7. I read something awhile back about Damaris's shows being re-shown on wednesday afternoons at 5:30pm. I hope that is still true. It would be wonderful to let more of America find out about her. Ree Drummond is now more known to viewers from some weekday exposure. I hope Damaris can also get some weekday viewing. People will love her, if they can just know about and see her.

  8. Heck with that. When is Next Iron Chef premiering, and who's going to compete?

  9. Who is this dude? He looks like a lead guitar player in Johnny Bad-A** and the Star-Spangled Rockers.
To the ladies in the audience, ever wonder why, so many guys like this guy, don't give you a happy warm smile in his pic? No. Instead its always gotta be some tough-looking Don't-F-with-me or I'm-gonna-kick-yer-A** after school type of look. Guys do this for deoderant/hair commercials, male models in suits and many other things. But they dont look--happy.

  13. Damaris seems like a nice person, but I won't be watching her show. I love "Food Network Star", but this past seaon was a train-wreck.

  15. You don't have to watch any show that you don't want but that was about as informative as mud. So, who or what kind of cooking show would you watch? You didn't say. Who is your current favorite Food Network cook and what do you like about them? The season may have been a train-wreck but Damaris wasn't. Or, how or why or in what way do you feel she might be? Again, you didn't say. You don't have to explain yourself, true, but by the same token, any of us reading what you wrote can think it's just a whiny complaint, uninformative, and vague as hell. If you wanna be that way, fine. It's a free country. But you said practically nothing. Its good if people praise and say why someone is praise-worthy. It's good to hear why people don't like something, if there is at least some specific anything. You did neither.

  16. Pretty new picture of Damaris on her twitter page. Nice hair. See also comments on FN Dish and the Damaris Wire.

  18. I hope Damaris' show is about Damaris.

Trisha Yearwood will be having Kelly Clarkson and all sorts of singers/guests. It's fine if Damaris has an occasional guest, but I'm watching for cooking, not music. Damaris doesn't need two other people giving her advice in the kitchen. My mom doesn't like Yearwood's show because she says there's always too people in the kitchen.

Also, don't let the vegetarians take of Damaris' show. She recently made a good meatless chili. Her cooking will be healthier than Paula Deen's, so there. But this is not a vegetarian show. So look elsewhere. We're celebrating Southern and proud of it. I love a good Pot Roast w/gravy or sauce. Hearty is good. Flavor is everything.

  19. Metric?!? Good grief, who even talks like that in real life? It's like someone using the word pejorative in conversation when they could've just said belittle, put-down or demean. Even using the word measurement instead of metric would've been more like the vast majority of people. Whatever.

OCTOBER is here and Chef Damaris Phillips' new show "Southern at Heart" will begin on Oct. 27th. It's not a trick. It's a Treat! Tell your friends.

  21. Yes but on the plus side, Max Silvestri's Grantland recaps of this mess are wonderful.

  22. So, Cooking Channel now has a hybrid of Great Food Truck Race and Food Court Wars in which two food-truck wannabes compete, and the one with the most profits wins the truck for a year. And it's hosted by Spike Mendelsohn.

  23. Saddest part was that they only really found their market at the end by playing the East Coast card. Most of their run was one blunder after another.

  24. Some of us have vocabularies and appreciate others who do and use them.

  25. Fine. You can give a public speech and so can Molly and then see who connects better with the audience. Same applies to writing.

  28. "pejorative" is an adjective. "belittle", "put down", and "demean" are verbs.

"metric" is a perfectly acceptable word to describe data derived from tracking, quantifying, and analyzing specific criteria, especially relating to online (web, social media, etc) behaviour.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ohhh my Gawwd. A lesson on adjective and verbs. Does anybody besides you even care?? People like you two are as bad as Mr. Spock on the original Star Trek with a case of OCD. You need to get out more.

Life is more than educating (cough) others on dictionary or grammar technicalities. Maybe it's your way of priding yourself on how much more sophisticated you think you are. At any rate, it seems compulsive. NO ONE CARES. Go play chess and read the Dilbert comic strip.

  30. Loved her. She was my favorite. Wondering if the show will be inclusive. Will she be showing gay guys how to woo the objects of their affection with Southern cooking?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'll never be on her show but I still do feel included. So should you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll be watching cause the Girl is AWESOME!! She cooks & cooks HOT!!!!

  33. I acknowledge what you say. But I will simply add that:
    1. In Politics, I'm not surprised that the number is far higher as that's always a hotly debated topic. 2. Yes, Spike from Top Chef has many more, too. But--that's sorta like expecting Damaris to have as many followers as Alton Brown. How long has Spike already been around? Damaris is just getting started. Do any of the other people who competed against her in Season Nine have 9000? I would suspect none of them do. Possibly Viet, as he once beat Bobby Flay. If Nikki or Stacey do, then I will say it is likely because they have a website. Damaris doesn't. She isn't on the radio like Nikki and she doesn't own a restaurant like Stacey. And I would have to re-hunt for it, but I seem to remember reading (in one of Justin Warner's Rebel Recaps? Somewhere..) that Damaris had the largest increase of followers during a season competition..?..or the most twitter followers of any previous FNS contender. Something like that. So, looking at it that way, I think it is kinda amazing. But even pushing numbers aside....it still is very nice to see a winner who: 1, Makes a variety of dishes very well (as opposed to everything is a pie) and 2. Who is outgoing and down to earth (contrast that with Danushka's sarcasm). 3. Who can teach (I wonder how many famous cooks would suck at teaching/explaining/being on camera. 4. Who wins on ability and likability and not because she dresses weird, has an "edge" or makes strange dishes that practically nobody would serve and tries to call it "unique." Good reasons to like her. I'm not saying she can't ever do any wrong. I'm not saying I will even like every dish. For example, I hate green beans. No biggie. Even an Iron Chef occasionally loses. They're still awesome. One more thing (again numbers aside)--we all have our own preferences, but speaking for myself, if I consider some winners before Damaris..i.e..Aarti, Justin and Jeff Mauro...by far, I would prefer Damaris over any of them. So...for someone who doesn't own a restaurant, or have a website, etc.it doesn't have to be a mandate. Her win is still quite impressive. "A little enthusiasm is good for the soul (wink)"--Crouton40

  34. You keep saying 9000 followers like it's some kind of amazing metric. It honestly isn't. Temptalia, a make-up blogger has 72,000+ fans. @LOLGOP a political blog has over 150,000. A Vampire Diaries fansite has 270,000+. Chefs like Spike from top Chef has 42,000.

I'm glad you're excited, but there is hardly a mandate for her. :)

  35. I'm not sure how much of an advantage that really was, since all teams get a huge boost by virtue of being on the show and they rarely truly blew away the competition.

Plus Tikka was self-sabatoging by giving customers a $5 break on other food if they bought the special. Every penny counts!

I do wish they'd had more judged cooking challenges. They seem more relevant than giving extra $$ to the first team to sell x dishes (especially since we rarely see the marketing side)

  36. I'm completely not surprised which truck apparently finished third. Couldn't believe they hung in as long as they did. They give new meaning to the term "dumb luck."

  37. Justin sabotaged himself. He made crazy dishes almost no one would recreate or serve to others.

  38. Retro Rad. That was Emily Ellyn (see www.emilyellyn.com). Food Network's mistake was to over-emphasize "camera-presence-at-all-costs" TOO SOON and in their eliminations. When it was announced that she had trouble staring down the camera, to me it seemed nearly unbelievable (or at least surprisingly doubtful) as she had been really growing and coming into her own. She knew how to cook and people loved her humor, Then, suddenly, she was gone. The outcry was HUGE! There was a blog-thread with over 1000 posts. People were outraged that she was gone. It got so bad they had to start a 2nd thread/discussion. There was also yet a 3rd thread which asked: of those eliminated, who would you MOST like to see come back?
EMILY! By 5 country miles. It wasn't even close.

Think about this: what if Emily (or Ippy) had won instead of Justin?
What if Brad Sorenson would have won in his year instead of that seasons winner? What if someone with a wider range of dishes would have won instead of Jeff the sandwich king?
How much better off would the Food Network already be, now?
Thank God the public chose Damaris Phillips this last season. She is desperately needed and will be a joy to watch. --Crouton40

  39. I seem to recall back in the day that Florence Henderson used to get a big laugh out of playing a housewife since she totally couldn't cook.
