The Shed Closes Mobile Location Leaving People Angered

The Shed Closing
The Shed, which is the subject of the new Food Network show The Shed, abruptly closed their Mobile, Alabama location earlier this week.  Employees claim they came to work on Tuesday to a handwritten sign that said Closed, and directed customers to their Ocean Springs location.

The following day, a different sign was posted outside(pictured right), which was from the Revenue Division of Mobile County saying their was a tax lien on the property.  So, it looks like they didn't pay taxes and were forced to close.

That is not what has people angered though.  It is the news story (video of it is after the jump) that has an interview with Brad Orrison who doesn't seem to care about the employees he left without a job.  He was joking about them losing their job and happily stated "Ya gotta find another job!"

There has been a lot of backlash locally with people commenting on news stories and on Facebook about how angry they are about the interview.  The Shed's Facebook page has been flooded with negative comments, and there is even a Boycott The Shed Facebook page that already has almost 4,000 likes as of writing this.

Here is the video:

What are your thoughts on the video after watching it? Have you even been watching The Shed on the Food Network?

  1. Hey, maybe he should go out and get another job to pay off the taxes and those employees!

  2. No doubt too busy filming a TV show to pay "taxes"...

  3. Food Network, you don't need someone like Brad! His laughing about "you gotta get a job" is an embarrassment.

  8. Another Food Network success story!

  9. Duck Dynasty works in part because the goofy redneck business owners are at the end of the day good decent people. Turns out Food Network missed that last part in their attempt to rip it off.

  10. I watched the first episode of The Shed out of curiosity. It was so corny and so NOT "reality" that I had no interest in watching it again. I had the impression though that Brad was an OK guy but goofy. Guess not. He did himself no favors with the way the store closing was handled nor with that interview. You can't be that cavalier with how you treat people and retain respect. I hope FN drops him.

  11. I set a season pass but couldn't get through the first episode. I watched maybe 10 minutes of it and deleted the season pass.

  12. But apparently keep up with FN Gossip?

  13. I've watched the show and it seemed like the family has to reel in Brad, he doesn't seem too bright but more of the energetic "personality" of the place.
Sheesh, "you gotta get another job"? And what is it with restaurants not paying taxes?

  14. Nope.....just responding after seeing this on someone's FB page, I'm not a fan of Food Network anything.

  15. I will never watch the show again but we know its all about ratings money and ego and not about compassion or what's right

  16. He always seemed like a smarmy jerk, so I never started watching his show, but wow how low can you get?

  17. He's embarrassed Mississippi, namely Ocean Springs/Vancleave. The only thing I've ever liked there was the potato salad. And I've NEVER ever seen any of those people working there that are "on" the show. Scripted to a T if you ask me. And being an immature jerk about the closing was just uncalled for. Who'd want to work for that nut??!! Didn't sound like he cared one single bit!

  18. Check out the Boycott Shed Facebook page, former employees and locals have been posting their Shed horror stories, some of its pretty funny. There is one story in particular by a guy that had to sue them that makes this store closing debacle look like nothing in comparison.

  19. So they cancel Paula Deen for something she did like 40 years ago but the Shed screws its employees NOW - but dont get their show cancelled. Huh.

  20. Wow. Not paying employees and not paying taxes is criminal behavior which could lead to time in the county or state jail. Added bonus, seriously flippant immature reaction of owner. And Food Network is still funding and promoting them?

I just don't understand their mindset. The Shed does nothing to educate us, but rather it fills airtime with vapid antics of a selfish immature boy and the rest of the money-making team that owns/works there.

And they dropped Paula Deen? She at least taught us about cooking and ingredients. With our own common sense and intellect, we could figure out what to omit or what to substitute in her recipes to make them healthier to eat. She said a bad word 20 or 30 years ago. Big Flipping Whoop. She was canned. Dropped faster than hot potato.

    I just don't understand.

  21. All of you geniuses do know that they were renting the property from someone right?!? The owners decided to sell, they were the ones who didn't pay their taxes!! The owners of The Shed closed, b/c they didn't want to buy the property and they are doing well in Ocean Springs and Gulfport!

  22. You don't pay property taxes when you RENT...They didn't own the property, so the taxes weren't theirs to pay!! Know what you are talking about before you just Assume! You do know what ASSuming does, right?!??

  23. They're not doing as well anymore at those locations anymore... And we do you feel like you have to defend their actions? Regardless of taxes Brad was still a egotistical, pompous jerk.

  24. Hun, I've been to the Ocean Springs location more than once since Mobile closed and they didn't seem to be hurting(even a little)!

  25. Actually, that's entirely dependent on the terms of the lease. There are, in fact, MANY cases where the tenant is responsible for taxes, insurance and maintenance for the leased space.

I don't claim to know the terms of their lease, and frankly don't really care, but I suspect you're making some assumptions here too unless you are privy to the terms of their lease agreement. :)
