Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill New York Location To Close

Mesa Grill ClosingAt the end of May, Zagat spotted Bobby Flay's restaurant Mesa Grill on a real estate website that said the space was available.  This led people to believe that Mesa Grill's New York location would either be closing or moving.

When that story came out, Bobby Flay responded to Grubstreet, and said they were renegotiating the lease and this was just the landlord testing the market.  He also said a move to midtown was possible, but they didn't have a space yet, and that Mesa Grill would live on in New York one way or another.

Well, today, someone posted on ChowHound
"Staff told today Mesa Grill is closing 8/31. Rent or landlord issue. Staff gets only 10 days notice. Said they may be moving to new location, but no details."
So, I went to Opentable to see if I could make a reservation at Mesa Grill for September, and nothing was available after September 1st.  I then called Mesa Grill to ask if they were closing at the end of the month, which they confirmed.  I also asked if they had a new location for the restaurant, and they said they did not, but recommended me to try their sister restaurant Bar Americain.

Mesa Grill's New York location has been open since 1991 and was Bobby's first restaurant.  There are still two Mesa Grill locations, one being in Las Vegas, and the other being in the Bahamas.

UPDATE 8/21 - Bobby Flay tweeted today "Sadly, as reported @MesaGrillNYC is closing after 22 years.  Just another NY real estate story.  Stay tuned, a new location is imminent."

So, it looks like Bobby plans to keep Mesa Grill open and find a new location.  Hopefully he can find a location quickly for the employees who work there.
