Food Network Star Voting - Poll

For the past two years, a poll on this site to see who people are voting for has correctly predicted the winner of Food Network Star.  The first year the poll was up, Justin Warner received 66% of the vote and ended up winning, while the second year the poll was up, Damaris Phillips received 72% of the vote and ended up winning.

This year the finalists are Lenny Mcnab, Luca Della Casa, and Nicole Gaffney, and I think this vote may be a little closer than the past years.  Answer the poll question below to let us know who you voted for or would vote for, and we will see the percentages each finalist gets.

As a reminder, this is not an official vote, so if you want to actually vote, here is the link to the Food Network site that has the official voting.  You need a Facebook account to vote online, or you can call in your vote.

  1. Nicole has my vote because she can actually pronounce Worcestershire correctly, unlike MOST people on the network (it doesn't have an H in it, where are they getting war-chester from????)

  2. I love how Nichole had her "friends" over at the end of her pilot I voted for Lenny btw

  3. I hope Nicole wins this thing, she seems pleasant and easy to follow. It's hard to understand what Luca is saying, and I feel Lenny has the potential to morph into the Guy Fieri/Jeff Mauro style of goofiness...I'm unsure how an increase in the clown factor would actually benefit FN.

  4. Lenny is the guy your grandma would try to fix you up with and that's high praise where I come from. Luca is charming and his food looks great. Nicole is photogenic and seems likeable but coastal cuisine isn't really something I can see the Midwest tuning in for. (I'm from Midwest and fresh ocean fish is a lot pricier here.)

  5. I think Lenny wins based on his personality, but I don't know what his show would look like on a regular basis. Mostly meat? Lots and lots of beans?

  6. Luca has my vote. I adore food from Italy, and he seems friendly and passionate about his food. (He's also good, looking :)) I feel like Nicole might not do so well because many chefs talk about coastal cuisine. It's a familiar style. Lenny was fun in the beginning, but now he seems drained

  7. I slept through last night's show, so I'll have to watch a rerun.
And, whoa, but I DID watch Lenny's brisket video on YouTube, and there is not one authentic bone in his body. He's even had his teeth fixed since then. He's coarse, crude, and vulgar...sound familiar, Paula Deen?
Does FN not do background checks on these contestants. I'll never watch Food Network again if Lenny wins.

  8. It's the same folks who move the r in mascarpone from the second to the first syllable and say "chi-POLE-tay."

I'd like to send him my condolences..he's last name is also apropos...

  10. I've wondered why they don't vet people better. Google, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter should be basic places to check before even inviting a person to try out for something.

  11. Unless you're Bobby Flay, who adds another whole syllable: "chi-POE-tuh-lay."

  12. My grandmother would have seen right through Lenny and advised me to run the other way as fast as I possibly could.

    ReplyDelete
  13. my grandmama would never have bought his act, goofy, scary expressions, and phony persona

different context. She actually called a person the n-word and had a history(the slave wedding etc).
Lenny was just running his mouth with his friend. Having said that he was stupid for putting it on Youtube regardless of what he thought his future would be, but to me it's a more a poor reflection of how intolerant society has became and quick to throw stones.

  15. There's no reason to assume that a protein is the "star." Luca was showing how to make a bagna cauda sauce and giving a tip about handling garlic. The fish was there as an example of something to use the sauce on.

let me preface that I think he was stupid for putting it on Youtube even if he never wanted to be on TV. Employers now actively search potential employees for behaviors like this
My opinion is this..I'm thinking of instances where people have said/done worse on National TV and were not fired or suspended(case in point Sharon Osborne of the Talk and her panel joking about a victim who was genitally mutilated) to me that warranted her being fired and the show even possibly being canceled..but it wasn't..so if that kind of behavior can be on National TV then i'm not going to crucify a guy for crude jokes that weren't directed at anyone on an obscure Youtube channel

  17. Better get Beano so you too can feel home on the range!

  18. Yea!!!! Time for this ridiculous witch hunt to END!!!!!! People.....get a grip and get a life!!!!!

  19. I keep hearing about a video on You Tube, and so I searched all I could find, and I can't find anything offensive. There is another guy name Lenny who hits a busboy with a sheet pan. Is it possible that there is confusion? Without seeing the video you mention I cannot say for certain.

  20. But at least the t is in the right place.

That will take you to a page saying the video has been removed by the user. Here is a very good comment made by MoHub about the video. You can see that there have been hints on this type of behavior shown in his personality on FNS, which is what MoHub is referring to in his reply to Shibori:

"MoHub Shibori • 6 days ago
Yep. Saw this and had to turn it off as it was so offensive. But then, I felt we got a hint of that back when Lenny referred to the lady "adjusting herself on the stoop," not to mention sitting down at the tasting table with Giada as if he were on a date with her."

The link just above takes you to the page where all this was discussed, you just have to search a bit because there are a large number of comments on that page.
*MoHub, hope it was okay to repost your very on-point comment.*

  22. Basically he was filmed slicing a piece of brisket that was falling apart when it was being cut. He made some rather rude and disgusting comments about it, one of which included the C word.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Its not a witch hunt. Merely pointing out that he isn't who he says he is. In addition, on his fan page they were boasting about the videos they made. Surely you cannot be proud of something as distasteful as the video. Sometimes the past comes back to bite you. Don't preach to me that you are this fanciful unicorn sequined cowboy who came trotting in from the nearest rainbow with your slow draw when in fact you are nothing but a thirty something year old wishing you were still a frat boy in using the c word, talking about my mom, grandma, dad and pops in your non-draw accent.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think you also need to consider production editing for the sake of time. You don't know what he did and did not do that was edited out.

    ReplyDelete
  25. He has a history on the show of being crude which none of the other contestants have done. Just like his comment about the after effects of beans while filming his pilot. He doesn't seem to have much of a filter for what others would consider off color.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's not a witch hunt and you seem to get rather worked up over it, both on the original thread about it and here. You sure your name isn't Lenny instead of guest? Or maybe Lenny's mom?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was going to do a post about it today, but they took it down... Surprised it took so long for them to take it down. Wonder if it was Lenny or Food Network.

  28. I think she will attract a ton of new viewers. While me may see someone using shrimp occasionally, no one is really doing what Nicole does. It opens up a whole new world! There are many people in all parts of the country that love Crab, Oysters, Clams, Chowders and more. But there's more, Nicole can also do Italian dishes (family background), has a good knowledge of jersey's veggies/produce and has studied at LSU. Her crusted Tuna dish was a big hit with judges. If memory serves, I believe she also made a dish on "skewers" that Iron Chef Bobby Flay praised her on. I saw a great abundant-looking salad she made on her Twitter with all sorts of goodies in it. YUM! This lady can do alot, she's friendly and has it together. Her point of view has been clear and solid from day one and she's good at it. I'd love to learn more from her. It's a tasty niche that needs to be addressed and she's a good one to do it.

  29. Seafood is still a big part of her POV, and seafood is a turn-off to me.

  30. I love it. Bring it on. I want more!

Well looks like he got spooked because he took it down, strange he made the video unlisted instead of just deleting it or making it private.

  33. If you noticed, on the clips taken directly from Rachael Ray's show, Loreal, who should have known better, was shown handling raw chicken and then not washing her hands before handling other foods/kitchen equipment.
That was cut out in the clip showed on FNS and nothing was said of it.
In the past I'm sure we've all noticed on FNS and Chopped where contestants were called out for that sort of thing. I think in this episode the judges just wanted to see what the contestants could do in a live setting while keeping in mind what the different families wanted help with.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks MoHub! I'm a her too :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL! The smell of seafood just bothers me. And I'm a vegan.

  36. Some of you have a horse in this race, I don't. I want someone, who, win or lose wont be on the next competition somewhere else looking for a shot at TV.
There are no stars on FN, only those that think they are, and they are annoying.
By the way, I am not a woman nor gay and I watch food shows often. I eat everything on this planet that it provides. And, I can cook, ask my kids!
FN has turned into game shows, and BS. And competitions like these are a popularity contest if you really believe your vote makes a difference. Keep dreaming.

  37. Isn't it great where there are shows that teach us, screwing your opponent is a good thing. Just awesome FN, ty.

  38. I'm off topic but felt compelled, hoppy didn't use the PC "his or her" and opted for the older norm of "his". I also stopped using "his or her" and exclusively use "his" since I've noticed that some use "her" exclusively(example, i'm paraphrasing an Obama speech where he said "No child's education should be affected by her zip code."

  39. worst thing he posted was him butchering a cat(a mountain lion). Personally i think he's a disgusting human being

  40. I really don't get the Lenny thing. I mean, yes, he's funny....but without an audience, he doesn't do anything for me. I sort of got the feeling that the panel wanted to just give Luca the win when they had to pick three pilots to green light.

    ReplyDelete
  41. RIGHT, yes, that's something I said. I'm from Ohio, and it can be hard to get reasonably priced shrimp, for crying out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Luca is a fat pig pretending to be a sexy man. Luca need to find a gym.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I feel like a SLFF (short little fat f) like Luca is just damn boring. Perhaps a little English enunciation would help.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If Luca is a fat pig then what would you call Lenny then?Or is Lenny you're idea of whats sexy?

To the dormer the dark knight character - Bury is an old English name. For example there's a Bury St Edmonds in Suffolk. The name Bury originally meant a high elevated fortress then later was connected to the term Borough. It doesn't just mean burying someone. Grow up Pally. And congratulations to a genuinely nice guy. Hope they are both happy for a long long time.

  46. I think you must have Luca confused with LENNY. Lenny is the one that's overweight.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm vegetarian and like you, the smell of seafood is not one I can handle. My husband likes to go to places where seafood is served and when I walk in if it smells like seafood, we sometimes have to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Luca's fat? Really. Agree w/ all you said Hoppy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lenny is obviously overweight, but he and Food Network do not pretend he is anything other than he is. Luca is FAT and he tries to cover it up.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Luca is fat, of course Lenny is fat he does not pretend he is anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  51. WHAT!!!! OMG its true! Lenny's Fan Club leaked the news. HE WON!! Are you kidding? Even after the psycho video where he says the c--nt word??? What is the Food Network thinking???

    ReplyDelete
  52. I guess you didnt see his cross-fit videos on Instagram.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Bill2455 You are out of your mind. You do realize the guy is an avid cross-fitter. You do realize he has a six pack. I think this is hilarious. Lenny is a trashy foul mouth imposter who pretends to be someone he is clearly not. Lets not forget the alleged stalking. Yet, according to you Lenny isn't pretending to be anything other than he is and Luca...gets called fat. I'm dying over here.

    ReplyDelete
  54. He ought to eat a carrot once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I can see your points on Nicole and Luca( his accent is hard for me), but if i HAD to choose out of the three it certainly wouldn't be Lenny. Even without the video, i find him annoying and phony. I've worked jobs with people like him(overactive and hyper) and I just can't take that

    ReplyDelete
  56. His potty mouth not the half of it with Lenny. He has been accused by Fez of the Ron and Fez radio show of stalking him, and I have seen evidence of it with my own eyes in videos Lenny has on Photobucket. He met Fez once 5 years ago and took a photo of them together and put it on mugs, calendars, t shirts, pens, plates, you name it, and took videos of all the stuff and sent it to him. Plus he kept calling into the show incessantly. He creeped Fez out so much he talked about how much it was troubling him on his show. Lenny of course acts all innocent and even claims that he was being "set up" by "impostors". Yah, the guy is delusional, so get over it. Society is not intolerant, some people are just smart enough to know a lunatic when they see one.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I personally think Lenny is a shill, meaning he's not a "real" contestant, just there for laughs and controversy to keep interest in the FNS show. I think the same was true for Rodney "Pie Style" from last year. He was another caricature, not a "real" contestant. That is why I predict Luca will win. I can't believe that Tuschie and Susie would let this bozo Lenny win after all this dirt on him online that makes him look like a scuzzy psycho loser. Even if they didn't know about it when the show was filmed, I'm sure they do NOW, so again, I predict Luca.

    From a linguistic website

No commonly-spoken language is fixed. All languages change over time. What we call "grammar" is simply a reflection of a language at a particular time.

    and from a guardian article

Sorry, there's no such thing as 'correct grammar'
Martin Gwynne may have fun telling people the rules of grammar, but language is owned and controlled by everybody
