Mama Lee's Restaurant Impossible Closed

Mama Lee's Soul Food in San Antonio, Texas, which appeared on season three of Restaurant Impossible has closed.   In a story from WOAI in San Antonio, the owner stated that business seemed too improve, just not enough.  They were losing too much money and decided to shut down on June 16th.

Mama Lee's also recently (6/11/2013) had a restaurant inspection that received 42 demerits.  Anything over 30 demerits is considered poor.  The link to the inspection with the violations is here and included things such as:

  • Observed one live roach and dead roaches in the establishment Eliminate the presence of insects by using any approved means.
  • Eliminate the presence of rodents by using any approved means. Observed rodent droppings in the establishment
  • Observed fruit flies in the establishment. Eliminate the presence of insects by using any approved means.
  • Dish machine is not dispensing sanitizer.

Out of the 12 restaurants that appeared on season 3 of Restaurant Impossible, this was the 7th that has closed or been sold.  I have updated the Restaurant Impossible Update Page to reflect this restaurant closing, so go to that link for the most up-to-date information on all restaurants from the show.

  1. And they wonder why they didn't have any customers?

  2. It sounds like they didn't make any improvements from when Robert was there; that episode gave me shivers from all the cockroaches that were there

  3. I went a few months after the show and it was pretty dead. Few people where there but not many eating (oddly). They also seem to not have the same food as what the show tought them. Some was the same but very little. Poor guys :-( still feel bad they didn't make it.

  4. Robert needs to find restaurants owners that are not completely lost in running their own business. Because no matter how much Robert helps those kinds of people in 3 days, they won't succeed. ALSO, a big problem Robert doesn't really address is marketing. He'll go to a high school or whatever, but nothing really. He needs to do what Anthony does with some his Hotels on "Hotel Impossible" and hook them up with other partners to cross-advertise...

  5. I am so disappointed in the Food Network. What hypocrites the producers are. And the companies, they are all covering their butts. Let's get each one of the corporations CO's to share under oath with a Bible and a minister on hand, that they have never used racial remarks. These CO's are usually old, ugly white men who have clawed their way to the top and in some cases bought their way to the top; who hate women, minorities, and anyone who has more power then they do. What a shame that our lives are controlled by such a group of thwarted individuals. All of use suffer from there indifference; their downsizing schemes, and their seemingly total control of our government. Ask yourself if the decisions made by our employers and our government benefit us or them. In my mind, I am the loser. I can't speak for anyone else, but I have experienced the outcome of most of those decisions. I have witnessed thousands of jobs contracted out to foreign companies forcing massive layoff in the technical areas of the economy. I suspect that many of us have our horror stories to tell. But I digress. I did not care for Paula Dean's recipes, but I still admired her courage and her passion for food. It's ashamed that she has been tarred and feathered before all the facts are in. Even her ex husband states that the media have created a monster out of a saint. I wouldn't have gone that far, but she did get a raw deal. How many Americans both North, South, East, and West over the age of sixty can say that they never uttered a racial slur? Not many. And those that say they have not are liars or much worse hypocrites. That's it.

  8. This just fits in with my theory about how Food Network is pushing Stacey to win FNS as an example of the network's success with Restaurant: Impossible. Looking down the list, The Trails seems to be the only RI makeover that has achieved true success.

  9. Tabatha Coffey has done similar cross-promotions with some of the businesses she has worked with in Tabatha Takes Over. She got one salon to work with a bridal shop, providing coupons for bridal party members to have their hair done at a group rate.

What are you talking about and what does it have to do with the restaurant OR the show?! He got his place remodeled, got free new equipment, got free training. FREE. And he still failed. Where in the world would this happen if it weren't for a show like this?????

  12. This is what happen with people that are so used to asking for handouts. They will never work hard enough to make it work because they didn't work and sweat to get it. I remember this episode very well because Robert had to ask the cousins contractors from HGTV to help with the kitchen. All the words that was coming out the owners mouth was this is the beginning and he will never let his mama down, his employees down, and especially Robert down. How easy it was to shed tears to get free stuff. Just lazy lazy lazy......... unbelievable!!!!!! And for a military person......go figure.. Just felt like another case of freeloaders.

  14. That was the most beat down kitchen I ever saw. Hell most of the budget went to equipment.

  15. How did *that* happen? Put the bottle down. lol

  16. If it was filthy and roach and rodent infested before RI showed up and returned to that state afterwards, the owners simply had no business being in business.

  17. Maybe they should make the failures accountable for the money invested in their business. Make them pay it back if they won't change their ways and work harder and smarter. It take discipline and smarts to run a good restaurant and not fail.

  18. How is Food Network/Lexus going to recoup the money if the owners don't have any?

  19. I was surprised to see RI use this as their #1 reveal on the insider show. You would think they wouldn't want to bring it up. It made me look into the restaurant only to find it closed.
