Best friends Matt and Matt not only share the same name, but also share a passion for beignets which they hope to transform into a broader, successful culinary concept. These two teams will Face Off to prove that they have what it takes to win over the hungry residents of Traverse City, Mich.

PRIMETIME PREMIERE EPISODES

Chopped

Premiering Sunday, February 2nd at 9pm - "Pizza Perfect"
The chefs learn they will be expected to make a pizza-perfect meal. In the first round, one of the competitors takes a loose interpretation of the theme. Then, some unusual toppings must make their way onto the entrée pizzas. The finalists must make pizza for dessert with candied mushrooms and salted caramel sauce.
Judges:Bruno DiFabio, Amanda Freitag, Alex Guarnaschelli

Premiering Sunday, February 9th at 9pm - "All Burger Meal"
The chefs learn that they will be making hamburgers in some shape or form for every round, starting with veal burgers for appetizers. Then, in the entrée round a little quail egg causes a big headache for some of the competitors. The competitors do not know what to make of a dessert burger, and only one walks away a champion.
Judges:Spike Mendelsohn, Amanda Freitag, Alex Guarnaschelli

Premiering Tuesday, February 11th at 10pm - "Chocolate"
With chocolate in every basket of this themed competition, the chefs must figure out how to make this perennial dessert favorite work in the first two, savory courses. Then, the two competitors who make it to the end must find a way to combine two chocolate ingredients with cherries and a German layer cake.
Judges:Maneet Chauhan, Christina Tosi, Aarón Sánchez

Premiering Sunday, February 16th at 9pm - "Bacon Baskets"
The chefs get some great news before the cooking begins: bacon will be in every basket! In the first one, they find Mangalista bacon and apple chips. Then in the second round, the judges watch to see if the competitors will be able to make dried cherries work with their pork entrees. French toast and bacon are a breakfast classic, but can the final two chefs manage to transform these mystery ingredients into dessert?
Judges: Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag, Adam Sobel

Premiering Sunday, February 23rd at 9pm - "Beer Here"
Chopped brews up some serious competition as all three rounds are devoted to beer. For their appetizers, the four chefs must make sausages work with toasted lager. A tasty triple ale is the beer in the basket for the entrée round. In the final round, the iconic beer and pretzel combination must be made delicious in dessert form.
Judges:Scott Conant, Chris Santos, Greg Koch

Premiering Tuesday, February 25th at 10pm - "Return and Redeem"
Four chefs who lost in previous competitions return, wanting the win more than ever. A bright green dessert and a seafood snack must be worked into the competitors' appetizers. Then in the entrée round, the chefs must contend with quinoa and sour candy. With one more chance to redeem themselves, the two finalists fight to the end, as they make desserts from palm seeds and dulce de leche.
Judges: Geoffrey Zakarian, Amanda Freitag, Scott Conant

Don't miss Chopped After Hours, a web series on FoodNetwork.com, where the Chopped judges step out from behind the chopping block to put their own spin on some of Chopped's toughest and strangest baskets.

Webisodes include:

Premiering Sunday, February 2nd at 10pm - "After Hours: Pizza Perfect"
Judges Geoffrey Zakarian, Amanda Freitag and Alex Guarnaschelli transform unusual toppings into a delicious entrée and Aarón Sánchez joins as host.

Premiering Sunday, February 11th at 11pm - "After Hours: Chocolate Competition"?
Ted Allen hosts as judges Marc Murphy, Aarón Sánchez and Maneet Chauhan create entrees with chocolate.

Chopped Canada

Thursday, February 6th at 9pm - "Just Desserts"
In this cavity-inducing episode, a different childhood sweet appears in each basket. Four chefs must dig deep as they look to marry candy and fish, duck and snack cakes, and relish and graham crackers in this sweet episode.

Thursday, February 13th at 9pm - "The Trouble with Tuile"
Chefs squabble for first place in the appetizer round, and chemistry finds its way into the kitchen. A creative use of rambutan sets one chef apart from the rest in the entrée round. Will experience trump ingenuity when it comes to incorporating radishes and feta cheese in a show-stopping dessert?

Thursday, February 20th at 9pm - "Clams, Lamb Thank You Ma'am"
Clams prove surprisingly difficult in the first round for these four chefs. Kimchi strikes a tangy note in the entrée round, but a bold use of this one ingredient cannot make up for the quality of others. Durian for dessert is a welcome, but stinky challenge for two chefs whose inventiveness knows no bounds.

Cutthroat Kitchen

Premiering Sunday, February 2nd at 10pm - "A Crepe-y Situation"
One chef has their arms full when they are forced to do their entire ingredient shopping without the use of a basket. Then, Alton masterminds a culinary sabotage, and one chef must think on their feet when they have to start their huevos rancheros over from scratch. Meanwhile, another chef attempts not to get bent out of shape even when handed a crooked crepe pan.

Premiering Sunday, February 9th at 10pm - "Melts in Your Pot, Not in Your Hand"
In this exciting episode, two chefs must get creative when Alton hands them peelings and peeled potatoes to make potato skins. Then, one chef goes island-style when they must harvest all their water from coconuts to make pad thai. Finally, a surprise party in the kitchen sends one chef searching for the right gift to complete their cake.

Premiering Sunday, February 16th at 10pm - "Foul Play"
Two chefs learn the true meaning of improvising when Alton forces them to switch dishes and sabotages in The Middle of a challenge. Then, someone has to get innovative when they are given a loaf of sliced bread to use as a bread bowl for clam chowder. Finally, a chef is taken back to their childhood when they must harvest breading from chicken nuggets for their chicken fried steak.

Premiering Sunday, February 23rd at 10pm - "Gluttons for Punishment"
Four chefs return to Cutthroat Kitchen for more punishment and a second chance to outsmart and out-cook their competition. Things start off with a blend when a chef gets to pulverize one competitor's hot dogs in a food processor. Then, one chef goes back to science class when they are forced to cook carbonara with a chemistry set. Finally, it is anything but a day at the fair when Alton hands a chef a cotton candy machine to use as sugar for their brownies.

Online, catch new episodes of Alton's After Show, a post-show conversation with Alton and the guest judges chatting about the strategies and tricks employed by the chefs in each episode. Also, check out highlight reels of the top sabotage moments, and Food Network personalities talking about which of their counterparts they would sabotage. 1. I LOVE Cutthroat Kitchen! That's currently my favourite show on the Food Network.

I'll be interested in the new season of Chopped, seeing two groups
using the same basket ingredients. I also like Rachael Vs. Guy and
Chopped Canada. And I'm looking forward to seeing more from Food Court
Wars; I hope this show is stronger in season two.

I'm not around for daytime, but I DVR The Kitchen. I watch Sandwich King sometimes; I just love how Jeff Mauro is with his kids!

I may watch Worst Cooks In America.

I have no desire to see Buy This Restaurant or Mystery Diners. I think Restaurant Impossible has jumped the shark.

And "New Season of 'Triple D' Among Food Network's February Highlights"?! Seriously?!

  2. Are there only ten chefs in the world? Why don't they recycle some of these clowns, like Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri, and Fat Anne Burrell. They seem to be on every show.

Cutthroat Kitchen is a stupid show about a sadistic deviant who wants to make cooking into some weird perverted game.

  3. It's really cool that Spike is judging hamburgers on Chopped. Like him or not, his Good Stuff Eatery does fabulous burgers, and he knows his stuff.

  4. I have to wonder whether Buy This Restaurant is set up to drum up business for Restaurant: Impossible after the newbies start floundering.

  5. Ratings for last night's 'Buy This Restaurant' preview episode were a disaster: 547,000 viewers and 0.2 in the 18-49 demo, dropping 60% from the 1.33m/0.5 demo from 'Rachael VS Guy' and dragging down an original episode of 'Mystery Diners' to 803,000 viewers/0.4 demo (source: Futon Critic). Doesn't bode well for tomorrow's premiere.

  6. Thanks for the info. I'm not surprised that the Buy This Restaurant preview tanked.

  7. I can't believe they renewed Food Court Wars. That show was boring as all get out.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yet I'll bet they have 12 more imitators in development.

    They're never going to learn...

  10. Enjoyed your comments.
I'll never get tired of Chopped but find Cutthroat Kitchen completely contrived. Still, I understand those who enjoy it--just not my taste.
Am really liking The Kitchen and did not expect to.
Unlike you, I love Mystery Diners, but, like you, have no desire to watch Restaurant Impossible and agree it has jumped the shark--FN is now trying to build new shows around the same, tired premise, and it's overload.
Someone please tell FN that the cupcake thing died a long time ago--it's yesterday's news--talk about BORING.
I love Worst Cooks and am looking forward to it...reminds me of Julia Child and her setting the kitchen on fire live on t.v. while cooking a chicken. I actually saw that as a teenager and never laughed so hard in my life.

  11. I didn't expect to like The Kitchen as much as I do. I found Katie Lee a
bit annoying in the first episode, but now I like everyone on the show
    and how they all interact.

As for Mystery Diners, I used to watch it occasionally, but it's just not my thing.

    I
used to watch Cupcake Wars. I don't know if cupcakes are current or not
as a food trend, but the show itself did die long ago. I feel like I'm
watching the same episode every time I see it with the over-the-top
drama that precedes every commercial break.

    I saw a Worst Cooks
re-run last night. I may watch this season. I enjoyed the re-run more
than I remember enjoying the show last year.
