Food Network - Thanksgiving Live 2013

Photo - Food Network (Thanksgiving Live 2012)
Tomorrow at 12pm ET/PT on the Food Network is the Thanksgiving Live special, which is returning for its 3rd year.  It will be live for the East coast, but the show will be taped for the West coast as it will still air at noon.

The 1st year of Thanksgiving Live had Ted Allen, Alex Guarnaschelli, Rachael Ray, Anne Burrell, Sunny Anderson, Melissa d'Arabian and Bobby Flay with Alton Brown hosting.  The 2nd year of Thanksgiving Live had Sunny Anderson, Giada De Laurentiis, Ree Drummond, Bobby Flay, Rachael Ray, Alex Guarnaschelli, and Aarón Sanchez and was also hosted by Alton Brown.

This year they seemed to have trimmed the number of people down with the Food Network only advertising Bobby Flay, Giada De Laurentiis, and Ina Garten with Alton Brown hosting.  So, basically the Food Network Star judges plus Ina Garten.  Guy Fieri will be busy throwing his 'Trailer Park' Thanksgiving elsewhere.

If you are interested in having a question answered, you can leave it in the comments of this post on the Food Network site.  You can also submit questions by using Twitter and the hashtag #ThanksgivingLive.  Most questions asked can easily be Googled, but for some reason, people seem to like to get basic questions answered by Food Network personalities.

Will anyone drink too much and slip up on live TV (The west coast will not get the pleasure of seeing that)?  Will Bobby Flay talk about having chicken broth/stock on hand over and over?  Will Ina get have rapport with the Food Network Star trio?  Tune in to find out.

Also, as previously covered here, there is a Google Hangout with Jeff Mauro, Sunny Anderson, Katie Lee, and Marcela Valladolid immediately following the Thanksgiving Live to help promote their new talk show.

  1. Did Giada buy part of the network or something? I never gave her a thought except when I was forced to watch her on NFNS and didn't like her very much. Lately, she seems to be turning up everywhere.

  2. Even in hair color commercials.

  3. Sorry won't be watching this year...will miss Rachael and Sunny

  4. I won't watch anything with Rachel Ray or Guy Fieri, so sick of them and I just don't trust Food Network to have at least one of them on the Thanksgiving special but not list them in the promo's so I will forgo this show also.

  5. Last year I watched an episode called "Thanksgiving in four hours" It was done by Alton Brown. I believe he demonstrated the split think with the turkey too. I bet it's still on the FN site somewhere if you want to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I may watch it... maybe. I'm disappointed that Chef Alex won't be on it this year.

  12. Vegetarian friends coming for Thanksgiving. I need a recipe for meatless gravy . Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  13. How much turkey would you cook for 36 people? I am also cooking a fresh ham, country ham, and a little beef. But, the turkey is the star. What are your thoughts?

  14. How can i defrost a 13 lb turkey safely but buying it day before

  15. Giada- What is a good tip to make plain mashed potatoes flavorful and delicious? You always have great recipes. Have a Great Thanksgiving!

  16. Tell Giada to stop interrupting everyone, please.

  17. Frying turkey this year butterball indoor fryer. Need a good gravy recipe from scratch

    ReplyDelete
  18. When preparing a frozen turkey how long do you thaw it? I want to do the dry brine you are talking about. Does it need to be completely thawed before you do the dry brine?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Question, do anyone do their turkey in the turkey bags? , if so do you like turkey that way?

    ReplyDelete
  20. You can tell Giada is not a fan of Alton. She's not perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ina is so lovely, always a class act.

    ReplyDelete
  22. please quit talking over each other.. it makes it very hard to understand what each of you are saying...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Looks like Alex and Sunny are actively participating via Twitter:

  24. She's participating on the Twitter feed for the show.

  25. My husband and I have been looking forward to this show all week. However, you are trying to out talk each other and not allowing much info.to come thru. I am disappointed and probably will not watch much of the program. I will watch the individual programs. Too much chatter!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Giadia...please, please....let everyone else talk. We love you, but you have to stop interrupting people (especially Ina)...it's annoying and kinda rude...may need to change channel

    ReplyDelete
  27. Giada's been eating too much of her turkey candy. STOP trying to dominate the show you are starting to annoy viewers! Love you Ina you rock!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Google "USDA Turkey Basics Thawing" - it's a .pdf fact sheet that covers thawing at all weights.

  29. The Washington Post Food Gang covered a similar question in their live chat this week:

  30. Alton looks so upset! I feel so bad.

  31. Giada keeps interrupting Ina. I do not like it.

now that Giada is gone getting first aid, maybe we can hear the other people

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hello I would love to brine a turkey this year for the first time. Is it true you can only brine a fresh turkey and not a previous frozen turkey?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Next year leave Giada home!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Google+ Hangout segment is headache inducing. It's got the Sandwich Guy, Sunny, and that execrable Katie Lee looped in via video along with Ina, Bobby, Giada, Alton (who are in-studio).

    ReplyDelete
  36. That was the worse show I have ever seen. Ina proved she has tons more class than Giada, and was that hilarious that Todd texted Giada to take those hideous glasses off ? I thought they looked lik Bobbies spare pair :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow...nobody here pining for "what's-her-name". I'm impressed!

Wish I could say the same for FN's Facebook site...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Covering my turkey. This year in banana. Leaves once I season and. Stuff it with citrus and. Chilie, can't wait to try it!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Dew -----Giada is acting like a spoiled teenager....too much chatter and interrupting from her. Where are her manners? Is this show about food and Thanksgiving or just a Giada dominated show? Give Ina a chance to answer please. Did Giada wash her hands before touching Ina and counter tops after handling her raw turkey breast? She did wipe her hands on a dry towel. Salmonella anyone???

    ReplyDelete
  40. She looks more like Ashley Banfield than Ashley herself!

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's not Giada, it's Alton. This should have just been Bobby and Ina. Too loud and rushed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Giada is munching quite a bit. It's Alton who is taking over too much. Let others talk. Alton jumped in and answered a question that was asked to Ina but it never really got answered. Alton is being too scientific. Very technically he may be right but almost no one cooks that exact and it still comes out fine. Let Ina and Bobby talk. This isn't Alton's show.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I watched the majority of this and it was not good. Talking over each other, throwing things (I think Giada was throwing pecans). They talked over a Skype guest, just plain rude and unprofessional. I am not watching FN anymore, all these "competition" shows in prime time are not my style. Oh, and let's not forget DDD and Chopped, really? Can't you come up with something more creative FN? Boring. Need new, fresh faces on the network. I like real cooking shows (Ina is my favorite) but that is only Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons. I have made several of Ina's recipes and they are simple and turn out great.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sounds like Giada ruined this special for a lot of people!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah, that seemed pretty unorganized

    ReplyDelete
  46. Can someone please put an apple in Giada's mouth, she seems so annoying speaking over everyone and interrupting into every conversation. Shut up for a min!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Someone please, please give Giada her prozac

    ReplyDelete
  48. Giada was more than usually annoying. I'm not a fan of Ina Garten, but at least let her finish answering the questions! Giada literally wouldn't let her get a word in.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I am watching the Thanksgiving special for the first time. Giada was SO rude. I am so glad I'm not the only viewer to complain. Ina is a class act, God bless you for your patience. Giada needs to stop interrupting, and flirting with the two married men.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Besides, she's married herself.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's a Good Eats episode. It repeats on Cooking Channel every year. I've got it on my DVR.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Make a roux of 2 tablespoons of flour and 2 tablespoons of butter (or oil, if your friends are vegan). Whisk constantly until golden and bubbly. Whisk in a quart of vegetable broth, along with a generous pinch of kosher salt, fresh-ground pepper and herbs of your choice. For Thanksgiving I'd use sage and rosemary. Continue to whisk until reduced to desired consistency.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I can tell he doesn't care for her either. And frankly, I'm on his side. She's shown herself to be rude and more than a little self-centered.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It was more a case of Alton ruining it for me. It's this non-stop
MC-ing and commentating of his that no one else gets a word in. They had to interrupt. He takes over too much. It's as if every show he is on he is just
doing more of the same old Iron Chef America rambling. He's too hyper.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thank you soooo much! Happy Thanksgiving to you!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Giada, you should have taken your glasses off like your husband suggested. I've never been a fan of yours anyway and yesterday you proved why. You were so incredibly rude to you fellow chefs. Every time you interrupted them I cringed. I was embarrassed for you. The only excuse I can come up with is that your jealous they have more experience than you.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I appreciate Ina and Bobby a LOT more after that. Giada and Alton were childish, and Giada was flat out rude. She ruined the show.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Giada was tolerable on her show but she ruined the whole LIVE show for me. From her and that big fake/forced cheesy smile to show off her artificially white teeth to her childlike annoying behavior. It was hard to overlook her antics just to hear what Alton, Bobby, and Ina were saying much less enjoy the show. To which I had been looking forward to for weeks. She was disrespectful to the other host. Dominated just about every question and acted like her way of doing everything was the "only " way and the "right" way. Todd was right. The glasses were ridiculous as well. I am removing her show from my dvr. Please food network, next year keep the other 3 and add an adult who is not stuck on herself next year or you will lose this viewer. Others I have spoken with have said the same thing. She ruined the whole show.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I too think Giada was extremely obnoxious. I know by the end of that show the other 3 host could not wait to get away from her. She is just so fake an such a know it all. It's sad that she took something that was such a fantastic idea from the Food Network and turned it into an episode of Jack Asses! She should apologize to the other host. I've never like her show from the few times I watched just because she seems so fake. That forced teeth smile has to hurt. Ina, Alton, and Bobby, I have the utmost respect for you. Food Network please replace her with someone else who is down to earth and maybe an adult. Really, throwing food. My personal opinion is that she had not one bit of interest in what she was doing. I too was looking forward to watching. What a waist of my time. Although I was able to get a few tips where Miss Giada let the others get in a word.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm certain that "Todd" and the FN were just totally embarrassed by Giada. This is horrible to say but when she cut herself and we had those 5 minutes without her, was the best part of the show. I thought "good! She's gone!" But then she came back. But then people like her don't go away that easy. I know that is terrible and I apologize. My husband sat to watch with me for a few minutes and had to get up and leave because he said "she was getting on his nerves."

    ReplyDelete
  61. It was mostly Giada. She acted very immature, interrupted everyone, threw food, ate out of serving bowls (and other's plates) with her fingers. Which she licked and then double dipped. In a word..obnoxious.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I would have challenged GDL to go the entire show without saying the word "Italian". I believe that would have solved the problem

    ReplyDelete
  63. tell them to eat what you are preparing and you aren't making anything special.

    ReplyDelete
  64. frying indoors is NEVER safe-- have fire dept on speed dial

    ReplyDelete
  65. Exactly my thoughts. I agree with 100% of what you said.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Alton seemed to encourage her at times though, while Bobby and Ina just stuck to answering questions for the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow, thank you! I really appreciate this, particularly being a vegan. I also appreciate that DonaF is catering to vegetarian friends. You're both awesome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Agree. He was no better than Giada. Too much.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Horrible show! Does Giada have some kind of disorder? She is very strange and interrupted everyone. I was so excited to hear that she cut her finger, the best part of the show was when she was gone. I love Ina. Next year, please leave big mouth out...hideous glasses too, actually was that a joke?

    ReplyDelete
  70. How do you make the Perfect Mashed Potatoes?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Are you kidding? Alton was such a jerk. Giada was making the best out of a poor situation. I can't believe Alton was so rude and wouldn't let it go. I am surprised the producers didn't pull him

    ReplyDelete
  72. Alton was harassing her are you kidding me?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yes. It's called spatchcocking.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Google, Giada badly injured live on thanksgiving special! Seriously! Its disgusting. I had the exact same cut last month. Nothing awful about it. It was my own carelessness using the knife. She is out of control. FN should be horrified enough to do something about this crap and go back to real teaching cooking shows!

    ReplyDelete
  75. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS SHOW. THEY SHOULD'VE JUST HAD GIADA DO IT BY HERSELF. THE OTHER 3 DIDN'T LOOK VERY HAPPY. BOBBY LOOKED TOTALLY DISCUSTED. ELTON WAS HIS USUAL KNOW IT ALL SELF. INA SHOWS TO BE A CLASSY LADY. THE LACK OF RESPECT SHE WAS GIVEN WAS WRONG. I WOULDN'T HAVE BLAMED HER IF SHE WALKED OUT. THIS WAS THE WORSE SHOW THEY HAVE GIVEN US. I WOULD'VE RATHER BEEN IN A ROOM OF LITTLE ONES THAT TO WATCH SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN=== GIADA REALLY RUINED IT ON THE MOST PART. SHE IS TRULY FULL OF HERSELF. SHE HAS A LOT OF GROWING UP TO DO. THE DISRESPECT SHE SHOWED TO HER CO-WORKERS WASN'T ANY BETTER THAN SHE SHOWS TO HER AUNT WHEN SHE HAS ON HER SHOW.
--HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL AND HAVE A TRULY BLESSED DAY WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS.--

Sometimes I split a chicken to roast just to save time. Can you do this with a turkey and would it still be juicy?

    ReplyDelete
  77. The HD version of FN on my cable airs the Eastern feed, so I can actually watch it live tomorrow if I have nothing better to do. Was sort of annoyed last year that they never bothered to mention it had been taped earlier for those of us in other time zones.

  78. its all grandpa's money she aint shit really money is all she has talent is lacking big time

  79. in defense of Giada .where to being, first of all Giada wasn't drunk
like people are saying i repeat myself she wasn't drunk, if all notice
she put water in Bobby flay food with a ladle she does about 3 time and
she has a steady hand not one spill at all. second of you said that she
talk over other host how any of us talk over one other at Thanksgiving
and they were was sharing their ideas. third 4 friend having a good time
and plus if all pay attention several time Giada ask Alton if it was ok
to talk about stuff, Alton was watching for the people who would signal
him when to cut people off and go to commercial! i want point with the
amount of time they were allowed to talk. four it was Ina 1st
Thanksgiving live who probably nervous and she trying to protect Ina.
also want to point to all of you Giada was the one who invited Ina make
sure wasn't overwhelm her 1st time on live tv. five Giada look hot with
    Glass........
