Food Network Star Season 10, Episode 8 Elimination

Photo - Food Network
On tonight's episode of Food Network Star, the remaining contestants were still in Las Vegas, Nevada and got to try one-of-a-kind Las Vegas culinary experiences.  Each contestant went to different Las Vegas restaurants to try something which was supposed to inspire the dish they created.  The contestants were then divided into two teams to create a meal for the judges.  The teams were picked by Emma and Sarah, and one team was Emma, Lenny, and Loreal while the other team was Sarah, Nicole, and Luca.

The judges for this episode included Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis, Bob Tuschman, Susie Fogelson, and guest Penn Jillete.  Bobby Flay apparently didn't make the trip to Las Vegas to help out with judging.

Sarah's team easily won as the judges liked all of their food and presenations, while Emma and her team all failed to impress the judges. This meant that Emma Frisch, Lenny Mcnab, and Loreal Gavin were up for elimination.  Emma has been in the bottom multiple times, and this time, the judges decided to finally send her home.  Emma will not be the next Food Network Star.

Next week, the remaining contestants head to New York City to continue the competition.

  1. YIKES!!! I didn't see that one coming! The three strong ones all on the bottom! Emma going home before some of the others on the other team! YIKES!

  2. I'm probably going to get alot of hate for this. I will also probably get alot of acclaim for this. But I don't care. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU FOOD NETWORK!!!! It seems like FN has a trend of ALWAYS sending the GREAT people home EARLY. Lets touch on the case (that still angers me from a few years ago) of Whitney Chen. In my opinion, she was the BEST chef to EVER come across Food Star. She got eliminated because she can cook like a badass, but she said that it was "a wild ride" getting here, and the judges eliminated her. Then, they eliminate Chad Rosental AND Martie Duncan, two great and charming chefs. Oh, wait. THEY ELIMINATED THEM TWICE! Now that we have lost Reuben and NOW EMMA (JESUS I"M TRYING SO HARD NOT TO CUSS), I am seriously putting all my faith in Loreal. I'm sorry, I don't like Lenny at all. He's annoying and his food is inconsistent. They only keep him on because he is a fan favorite. I like Sarah, alot actually, but her cooking chops just don't compare to everyone else's in the competition. Luca is just ok, I can barely understand him but he's from my area. Nicole is so so for me, shes now my second favorite, and Loreal is great. I just wish this stupid show would take some viewer input. Yes, I know that the shows are pre-taped months in advance, but I cannot understand why they eliminate the FRONTRUNNERS in the competition! Please kick off Lenny (don't hate!) and TAKE THE CAKE LOREAL! YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE!!!

  3. As much as I like Emma, I agree with this elimination. She made a poor choice for teammates. Loreal and Lenny's personalities clash with hers. She forced them into a meal concept that didn't make sense for anyone, especially her teammates. I don't know about her food, but her presentation was terrible. After she talked about burning baby piglets tasting delicious, I wanted her to go home. I hope Luca wins.

  4. Anyone else feel like the distribution of the food seemed uneven? Steak, duck and frog legs vs. pork, langostine, and sea urchin? I think Sarah's team had the easier time of it. Sarah especially got incredibly lucky with that.

That said, I do question whether Emma's been to fine dining, because that was very weird.

  5. I agree, Carrie. Emma's team received much more challenging ingredients.

  6. BEYOND FURIOUS. Emma was the last person on the show who was relatable Sorry, FN, all you have is a bunch of overdone personalities left that most of food network audiences wouldn't watch Sunday mornings. Only person I would be happy winning now is Nicole. But this is by far the weakest top 5 on FNS.

  7. I'm upset too, Emma was a sweetheart, but she bored me. I'm sure she is fantastic as a teacher though in real life. Of the ones left, tie between Lenny and Loreal. Luca is nice eye candy, and the accent is sexy IMHO, but if I want to see a handsome chef with a sexy accent cook, I'll watch Jean Novelli. I can't stand Sarah at all, yet I think they are going to keep her for the final three audience votes to make the other candidates look good.

What was the deal with Alton tonight? This is the first time since he's been on FN he's upset me. I hope it was just a very bad day for him.

  8. Yes. Emma's team was set up to fail. I could understand langostine vs. frog legs but that pairs up duck vs. sea urchin. Not a fair match. I won't quibble about Emma getting eliminated, as she's a bit too laid back and isn't getting her "farm to table" POV across (though the challenges aren't suited to her POV.)

When Emma won the coin toss Sarah made a pouty face. Don't do that, it's childish.

I follow baseball closely, when teams have a hot prospect come up and struggles, he's sent to AAA to work things out. I'm cynical enough that FN sent Luca to Star Challenge to work on things -- his English and presentation.

Lenny would probably do well with a live studio audience, but I doubt FN would invest in that for him.

  9. Emma is obviously a nice person, but her voice is flat and has no inflection...no ups or downs, just a dead monotone, and it drove me nuts. She was awful last night and needed to go home. I also hope Luca wins...he's absolutely the only one I would ever watch.

  10. I'd like to know where in the heck Bobby Flay was again last night...MIA two weeks in a row. It's so irritating to me that the advertised Judges down show up for their own show.

  11. Wish there was an edit button. "don't" show up...not "down."

I agree with your comment about Alton. He seems to have changed. On Good Eats, he was this funny, nerdy guy. Now with FNS and CK he seems to be the mean, grumpy old man. Maybe he thinks there is a 3rd chair in the balcony with Statler and Waldorf from the Muppet Show.

  13. I agree about Alton as well. He isn't that likable guy who has written books or hosted Good Eats. For one thing, I think he needs to lose the beard. I wonder if he is trying to act the part of Cutthroat Kitchen because his persona from that show seems to be carrying over.

  14. I'm with you, I think Alton is getting a bit grumpy. I used to like him, but I am starting to appreciate him less and less. Another person that needs to go is Giada.
I would like to see Lenny and Luca left standing. Loreal reminds me of fingers on a chalk board.

  15. I disagree with you about Loreal. I don't hate her but I strongly dislike her. I would rather thing of more pleasant things like fingers on a chalkboard. I find her annoying at best and if she does win, I am not watching any of her shows and if FN had any sense, they would cancel her shows before they air. I was pulling for Lenny, but now I would like to see Luca win. I think it would be great to see someone who was previously eliminated become the "Comeback Kid."

  16. He's been grumpy for quite some time. It honestly makes me wonder if the guy on Good Eats was the persona.

I do hope that he feels better soon though, regardless.

  17. Loreal is white trash. No way she will win.

  18. Maybe it was the weight loss. Eating less and exercising more might have made him less jolly.

  19. There is an Edit option. It should show right at the bottom of your post.

  20. Hah. Maybe.

All I know is that I'm no longer a fan of his. I can handle grumpy, but this grumpy seems to come with a side of unnecessary harshness that seems uncalled for.

It's telling when the most tolerable judge is Flay.

  21. I agree. Grumpy or downis fine but he's mean. And Giada is so full of herself she's disgusting to watch. Bobby is the only one who is tolerable.

  22. I actually asked him last night if it was clever editing or he was actually making all of those faces last night. He replied, "A little bit of both" - https://twitter.com/altonbrown/status/491036208441868288

  23. They have to get rid of the good ones early so they don't have another train wreck like happened when McCargo Jr. fell flat on his face and they actually decided to "change the rules" to NOT send someone home that episode because the season was setup for him to "win" from the start.
So, to avoid that embarrassment again, they make SURE nobody good survives to the final 3 or 4 contestants. This show is a total sham, not a HINT of reality in it. All it is is a multi-episode "introduction" to make us all fall in love with Giada's fav so perhaps we'll watch his boring over-smiley new show which has already been filmed. B-O-R-I-N-G.!!
Has anyone watched Pawnography on History. That one is so bad it actually makes me feel sad for the Pawn Stars guys. History Channel is truly out of ideas! Maybe the same ownership of Food and History - seems like it at least. Oh yeah, Alton has gone off the deep end of depression or something. All he can do now is sneer and say ugly things to all (except for precious Luca of course).

  24. Alton is one bright guy....sorry to see his disposition go south.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think Alton has become increasingly more irritable for more than a year. I used to like him until he got snarkier to the point of being flat out mean and condescending. And I haven't been fond of Giada since she ruined Thanksgiving Live.

At this point, I'm rooting for Luca.

  26. Very well put, Robert - everything you said here.

  27. I agree. Being down on life is one thing, but that's no excuse for taking it out on others like he does increasingly more often (at least on TV).

    ReplyDelete
  28. It was stated in the episode before last that Bobby Flay was involved with the grand opening of his new restaurant in NYC. Perhaps he will resurface when FNS comes to NYC.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am liking Luca more as I see him perform. I would like to see him become the "Comeback Kid" and win it all.

For next seasons FNS, I propose that we have Alex Guarnaschelli and Geoffrey Zakarian replace Giada and Alton, respectively. We can keep Bobby Flay and let Jeff Mauro (a.k.a. Sandwich King) host Star Salvation.

  30. Thanks Kenman--totally missed that. The show is not the same w/o Bobby.

  31. It's just not there for me...the only thing showing up is "Collapse" or "Flag as Inappropriate."

  33. There's a huge difference. Serrano ham is sweet and moist. Prosciutto is salty and dry. It's like saying that bananas and limes are the same because they are both fruits.
