Restaurant Impossible - Edgar's Restaurant Update

Photo - Facebook
Tonight on Restaurant: Impossible, Robert Irvine and his crew are in Akron, Ohio to makeover Edgar's Restaurant. Edgar's Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant located on a golf course owned by Glenn Gillespie who is also the chef.  While Robert Irvine is there, he finds that Glenn is not being completely honest with him which causes some problems during the transformation.

As I normally do with Restaurant: Impossible episodes, I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments and reviews about Edgar's Restaurant to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Robert Irvine visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Restaurant: Impossible):

Positive Reviews:

  • "While it looks way better the menu selection has gotten too small the food still tastes amazing but alot of our favorites were gone. will give another shot soon hope they re added some things back to the menu"
  • "Great Service, Great Food, Great Atmosphere!!Had a delicious meal and wonderful experience. Glenn the Owner/Chef is amazing!! I recommend getting the Prime Rib!"
  • "Just stopped in at Edgar's for the first time in a long time. What an absolute awesome experience. The service, the food, the atmosphere stands alone."
  • "What a wonderful restaurant right on the golf course. Whoever the chef is his menu is solid and not pretentious. Love the meatloaf and pulled pork. Full bar and decent wine list. We have tried several appetizers and have not been disappointed. Find this restaurant and have an above average experience."
  • "Great food and service, we have family parties here in the lower floor party room and the staff is very accommodating! Good bar service too if you're into adult type beverages."
  • "Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere!! Love the food and the owner/chef Glenn is Amazing!! I recommend the Smoked Prime Rib. It’s Phenomenal!!!"
  • "Amazing decor. I think they just remodeled. Food was even better. Oh yeah, good strong martini cocktails too! First time there, DEFINITELY going back!"

Negative Reviews:

  • "We have been several time & always look forward to going. Went 9/25/19 to check it out after makeover before having my husband’s birthday party there. Service was poor, .kitchen help coming out to dining room to walk around for no reason. Menu had changed so none of the favorites on there. On line menu have a lot to choose from.Wasn’t told that specials were on the back of drink menu. Food was not good. Meatloaf was mystery meat."
  • "After all the hype from “Restaurant Impossible” this was so disappointing. The menu was a struggle to make a choice. (The online menu offered more choices). Service was OK but a polished professional appearance by all servers and Hostesses is needed. They are asking a fine price for their drinks and food and their staff and menu should reflect that. The atmosphere/decor is very nice and trendy but again “diner” food just didn’t fit. We had the grouper salad, which had a very generous portion of grouper BUT the crab shouldn’t even be in it because you can’t find it. The “salad” portion of the feast was blah...just shredded iceberg and some romaine. Clam Chowder was tasty and the Fried Calamari was....well, the breading reminded me of Churches Chicken. We used to love to go there to eat....I was hopeful this time but so disappointed esp with our Anniversary and all..."

Conclusion:

The reviews for Edgar's Restaurant since the Restaurant Impossible makeover have been mostly positive with a lot of compliments on the food and the atmosphere.  The reviews before the makeover weren't too bad and Glenn said Edgar's was operating with a slim profit margin.  Glenn has kept some of the suggestions by Robert Irvine regarding the menu, but he has also added items back to the menu.  Glenn said business has picked up since the Restaurant Impossible makeover and that he is hoping it will pick up even more once the episode airs.
