Food Network Star Episode 4 Elimination Plus Star Salvation

Photo - Food Network
On tonight's episode of Food Network Star, the contestants had the challenge of proving they could put together videos to market themselves on the internet.  In the first mentor challenge, they had to create a behind the scenes video of themselves in the Food Network Kitchen to prove they could put together a social media presence.  After that challenge, the contestants were teamed up to create an internet marketing video for a Hershey's candy product.  The videos were filmed at Youtube's soundstage, and were judged by two Youtube executives.

Emma won the first challenge and her reward was that she got to pick her team for the second challenge.  That paid off as her team also won the second challenge.  The bottom team and the three contestants up for elimination after the second challenge were Aryen, Lenny(again), and Chris L.

Aryen Moore-Alston was sent home by the judges after her poor performance in the Payday commercial where she was hard to understand.

Aryen went on to compete on Star Salvation against Chad Rosenthal and Luca Della Casa.   Luca and Chad continue to knock off the eliminated contestants in Star Salvation, and Aryen Moore-Alston was eliminated from the competition.  Aryen will not be the next Food Network Star. 1. UGH NO! I'm not saying that Aryen was my favorite, but I DEFINITELY prefer her over both Christophers, Lenny, and Nicole. I don't understand why they don't take the viewers input!

  2. The segment about candy had nothing to do with food. It was more about creativity and stepping outside your comfort zone. Although Aryen wasn't quite clear with the last line, she was very active and was more involved than some of the others who just sat on the couch

  3. I agree. The Mounds/Almond Joy video was, by far, the worse. Loreleil or Sarah should have been sent home.

  4. Can't stand Christopher....

  5. I'd be upset about Aryen, but she was cannon fodder, so better sooner rather than later anyway. Ultimately, even if she had nailed the line Christopher is still the better cook so I still think it was a good call to make.

As for the other Christopher, what a camera hog. Then again, the ladies let themselves be railroaded by him. At least the judges did figure that out and I think it'll hurt him in the long run, it'll be something that sticks in their mind if he winds up on the bottom again. Do they really want to keep someone in who can't be guided?

  6. I can't believe the Pay Day video ended up on the bottom. It was BY FAR the best video of the night ... not even close and the fans agreed according to the little poll they flashed on the screen.

  7. It will be an absolute crime if Lenny doesn't win the entire thing. I would absolutely watch him if he had his own show.

  8. Absolutely agree both the Mounds/Almond Joy and the Reeses paled in comparison to the Pay Day video but the Mounds/Almond Joy video was just plain boring.

  9. Reuben must have an entire contingent voting for him over and over because right now he has a significant lead which is mind boggling. Honestly I can't see how anyone could beat Lenny ... Love that guy.

  10. I'm rooting for Emma.

  11. Thankfully Ruben pruned that awful beard of his. He looks soo much better. I had a hard time looking at him before, now I find him easy to look at and I actually like him more. chris may not have gone down this week but there will be another opportunity.

  12. Got to remember these were recorded six or more months ago

  13. It's amazing to me how many people don't get the concept of prerecording. Everything but the finale is in the can and can't be changed.

  14. Definitely Team Emma here, and my support gets stronger each episode.

  15. He is fun to watch and I like the "chuck wagon" theme. He can cook too.

  16. I liked it the best too, but they had a valid point that you couldn't understand the most important line of the vid. It may be a faux-viral video, but it's still first and foremost a commercial. On that front, it was a failure.

  17. Same here. I do think a Lenny/Emma final two is viable. Not sure who will sneak in to the 3rd spot yet.

  18. Maybe it's just me, but I found Loreal's schtick in the Mentor Challenge to be off-putting. I cringed as I watched her, and the last bit with the chicken parts seemed contrived.

I'm always up for a little silliness, but this was so far over the top as to make me uncomfortable.

  19. I'd say Reuben is a likely candidate. However, what with the amount of airtime the editors are giving to Sarah's confessionals, I suspect she might be the third=place finisher.

  20. I feel like Reuben will be kept around as long as possible, but ultimately he won't be able conquer the fast speech and get cut for it.

  21. Most will disagree with me and I do think Emma is a nice person, but she absolutely puts me to sleep.
I thought all of the videos were nonsensical...this was not a week I enjoyed.

  22. MoHub: "I'm always up for a little silliness, but this was so far over the top as to make me uncomfortable."

I agree w/ this statement, and, while this has absolutely NOTHING to do w/ NFNS, it is related to MoHub's comment.
I have become really weary of The Chew, which I never used to miss, but rarely watch now. Don't get me wrong...I still like it and how could anyone not like the hosts...BUT, the silliness and LOUD meter is so out of bounds that I'm now enjoying The Chew's copycat show on FN so much more and actually really liking "The Kitchen"--it's now my not-to-be missed weekend show.

  23. The Chew needs to cut back on the dumb games.

  24. This show is the worst. The track record for picking a "star" isn't good. I'd be pissed if I was Aryen being sent home because I didn't speak clearly as Egor. However, she wasn't going to win anyway. And the winner likely won't have a show in a year, so there's that.

The challenges have nothing to do with making a show. How often are the stars asked to cook their recipes in a tiny kitchen or create a viral video? Never. The season with Kelsey Nixon, Kelsey was sent home when she had to swap cooking stations with someone else and her dish wasn't that good and she was sent home. She was clearly the best of the bunch and that's been proven over time as she is the only one with a show.

    Whatever.

  25. I was thinking the same thing. Aryen deserved to go. Her only high point was when Lenny coached her how to undo the mistake caused by one of the chefs,.and she did not have the integrity to state she got help. For all we know the judges reviewed videos, and saw her deception. That could be why she was sent home despite being clearly better than Chris in the video. In fact that could be the reason the best video was graded at the bottom to get her out.

  26. The Reeses one would have blown the others out of the water if they hadn't gone on for so long.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I also like Luca. I would love to see an Emma / Luca finale.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I hope Sarah doesn't make it that far.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It really was a stupid challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I found her mentor challenge video disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Agreed. I stopped watching it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think Luca is a real contender and will end up in the top along with Lenny and Emma. How does Star salvation work when it comes time to putting a contestant back in the mix with the rest of the contestants?

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Salvation winner usually comes back about five or six from the end.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The winner will rejoin the competition on the July 13th episode

    ReplyDelete
  35. Does this mean that the contestants eliminated later on in the game don't get a second chance to come back? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  36. correct. Only the next 2 weeks will the eliminated contestants go to Star Salvation

    ReplyDelete
  37. Luca...Luca...Luca all the way. The guy is a true gem. Clearly it didn't take him long to take a peek at the camera. It was absurd he was eliminated when he was. I hope he comes back to show them who is boss. He has the personality, the skills and judging from what I've seen online the guy has a genuine heart of gold...I mean he gives recipes for children with food allergies too. All round good guy.

  38. I'd love to see Luca take the whole shebang like Kristin did in Top Chef: Seattle.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ina Garten would never have survived as an FNS contestant since she's not OTT.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I was disappointed in the lack of sexytime between Lenny and ShayCarl.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love beards on dudes, Ruben really needed to give that ZZ Top mess a good trim. He looks 100x better now.

    ReplyDelete
  42. As a Lenny lover I totally agree with you. To me he's the best person out of all the people there. His PayDay commercial idea was awesome and my fave by far.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ditto here!!!
And I loved Kristin on Top Chef!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Speaking of ZZ Top, my daughter got a t-shirt with her name and a hand-written message to her signed by Frank Beard when she was 14. He used to race cars w/ a long-ago friend of mine. I stupidly let her wear it and washed it. Oh my!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Doubtful. I know on Top Chef they only see what goes on in front of their eyes and I wouldn't be surprised if same applied here.

Let's get real: Aryan to date never impressed the judges with her cooking and then failed to impress with her in-front-of-the-camera work.

Chris, OTOH won the Cutthoat Kitchen challenge. Between the two, the obvious keep is the one who can cook.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's funny that the only guy in ZZ Top without a beard is a guy with the last name Beard.
