Food Network Star Episode 2 Elimination Plus Star Salvation

Photo - Food Network
On tonight's episode of Food Network Star, the finalists first had to teach Alton Brown a recipe in the mentor challenge.  They then had to create a video demonstrating one of their own dishes for a home viewer.  The viewer ended up being Alex Guarnaschelli, who tried to recreate their dishes based upon their video.

The bottom three contestants that were up for elimination were Kenny, Chris and Luca.

Kenny was declared safe, and then Luca Della Casa was sent home by the judges.

Luca Della Casa went on to compete on Star Salvation against Chad Rosenthal and Martie Duncan. In Star Salvation (link to the videos), Martie Duncan's comeback was short lived, and she was eliminated from season 10 of Food Network Star.

  1. Mea Culpa, but, darn, I am liking the Cowboy guy...he can cook and he's both funny and articulate. But would I want to be seen in public w/ him...Hell No!!!

  2. Chris or Kenny should have gone home. They didn't put anything on the plate.

  3. Was he on a show before that I'm forgetting? He seems really familiar, and unfortunately, I don't enjoy him that much. However, everyone loves him so I'm sure he'll stick around.

  4. He was on Guy's Grocery Games.

  5. Yes! Thanks. It was driving me nuts. And again, why are the same people on all the same FN shows? So weird.

  6. Because FN now draws from a closed circle of competition cooks.

Other than those it cops from Top Chef, of course.

  7. I don't know. I find him a bit slick for my taste, and the business about instructing Aryen and then getting angry when she got credit for following his advice: well, maybe he shouldn't have helped her if he didn't want her to get the praise she got.

Strangely enough, I'm finding he reminds me of Penny Davidi.

  8. I don’t mind him, at least not yet. It doesn't hurt him that there are few real front runners emerging. A lot of these people are kind of meh.

  9. Thank you! I knew I'd seen him before but couldn't remember where. I didn't like him at all on GGG and didn't like him at all before last night. But I don't want to see him win, because I'd go blind if I had to look at his dumb costumes every week.

  10. Oh, my...I remember Witch Penny.

  11. Best thing that ever happened to Penny was having tomato sauce explode out of the top of her blender on Cutthroat Kitchen.

  12. I don't think either of them will last much longer, although I'd like to see the other Chris go first for his superior, condescending attitude.

  14. I think there's a good chance Luca will survive Salvation and come back. He's already learned how to smile and talk to the camera, and he really knows his stuff.

  15. I hope he'll come back.

  16. I had the same reaction to him.

  17. I like him so far, but that stuff about telling Aryen what to do and then getting upset was pretty lame. What did he think would happen?

  18. Agreed! I cannot stand his attitude. There's a guy on Master Chef that has the same type of attitude and I want him gone too.

  19. Luca made a huge improvement between being eliminated and his turn on Salvation. I was amazed and happy! I think he'd be awesome on a cooking show.

  20. I liked the way they had Alex making the dishes along with the chefs, following their spoken directions. It was a very down to earth way to show them how important what they say is.

  21. I like him a lot (I especially go for chubby hairy guys so I'm biased), but he needs to stop dressing like he raided Garth Brooks' closet. Much like with Guy's 40 year old fratboy look, it's too silly to take seriously and comes off like a costume, not an outfit.

  22. That and Loreal's headscarf. She looks like the label on a can of Luzianne coffee.

  23. Oh no...is Master Chef on NOW? Am I missing it???

  24. I totally adore him...and he's humble and not cocky. A win-win.

  25. Yep...they sent home the wrong guy this time.

  26. Very surprised that Martie went ahead of Chad, though. I like Chad, but he's never really resonated for me as a teevee personality.

  27. I think Alex had the visuals as well so her work would replicate what a home cook would do while watching a cooking demo.

  28. MasterChef just started up again. Can you watch it On Demand?

  29. The only Masterchef I can watch is the original UK product, which is an entirely different show.
