Restaurant Impossible - LBI Pancake House, Ship Bottom Firehouse (Holiday: Impossible 2)

Photo - Food Network
Tonight in a special edition of Holiday: Impossible, Robert Irvine and crew are going to Ship Bottom, New Jersey to help out LBI Pancake House and the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company.  This is the second Holiday: Impossible, which have helped areas devastated by natural disasters.  The first was in Joplin, Missouri after a tornado, while this one is in Ship Bottom, NJ to help rebuild after Hurricane Sandy.

Instead of the normal 2 days and $10,000 usually does, the show will be spending 3 days and $50,000 to help repair damage at LBI Pancake House and the Ship Bottom Fire Company.  As this is a special, I will not do the normal update or include it in the stats for the show.  So, just enjoy a show where Robert is helping people who appreciate it and doesn't have to deal with clueless owners, bad food, and the normal drama.

  3. You have the town name listed incorrectly as Ship Point on the full episodes list.

  4. I think what you said about Mike is right on and is the basis for his parents anger, They are trying to make him like themselves. It is like they want to punish him for not being upper class like them. A chef is beneath them.

  5. Yeah, I've read updates where the owners say they went back to their old menu right away. I think Robert himself says they can add dishes back since the limited menu is only for the opening night.

  6. The dynamic in this family is sadly fairly common. This is certainly not the first time I have encountered it. The parents led by the domineering, controlling and manipulative mother, gives the son all sorts of material support in lieu of actual love and concern. The gifts and support are a honey trap.once the son accepts they use his sense of loyalty and gratitude against him. At the same time the son falls knowingly for every trap.To give it up means gaining self-respect and freedom of purpose, but at the cost of losing what is at times the dream life of being financially supported and having few to no real reposibilities. He has become addicted to a lifestyle. Like a heroin addict he resigned himself long ago to accepting pain and humiliation for being able to continue to live like a little kid with lots of cash and gifts that ensure his fix.it's shameful his mother is the sort of person who will addict her son to their relationships so that she always has a target to control and manipulate forever.

  8. There are usually complaints by alleged customers that prefer the old menu and want it brought back? Who are these supposed drives of customers, and where was there love of the menu during the years that the restaurant failed to turn a profit? Also, why would the restaurant do anything to cater to said customers when catering to their likes left the restaurant calling RI for help?

I've gotta call shenanigans. If anyone sees a comment on the Facebook page saying "hang the pictures back on the wall from before the makeover," we'll know it's likely the mother trying to sabotage the renovation.

  9. The show was great, the thing that bothered me was at the closing credits "Thank you to the office of Chris Christie" for what? What did he do? Nothing, this was 10 months after Sandy and what help did CC give these people!

  10. I have never wanted to check up on a RI episode before. My heart went out to Mike. I'm not sure who contacted the show but there was obviously much resistance and hostility by his parents.

The mother was in so much denial that I wanted to come through the TV screen and shake her! One review said that she probably asked her family and friends to give negative reviews and quite honestly, she is not one to be “wrong” and it would not surprise me if she was “too smart” for her own good and did just that!

If Mike does not get a backbone and put his critical mother and incentive father in their place (which is not in this restaurant), then this restaurant is doomed to fail. Quite honestly, I don’t know why he wants to even stay. I was so disgusted by his parents, that if I were their child, I would just walk away and leave them holding the bag and NEVER look back!

  11. I just saw this episode and was appalled by both parents behavior ! I had nightmares about the mother. Yes, of course they edit the show but if you watch RI regularly, you will notice that they show the negative stuff in the beginning and at the end they show how Robert got through to them and they take responsibility and change. This women never took responsibility!!! They wanted to make an invest and then blamed their son for it failing!

I'm with everyone mike, leave! Go work for someone else. Your birth parents are it always good for you. The mother was one of the most hateful women I have ever seen. She did not even have to say much, it was her energy.

Leave mike!!! Then get a good therapist to undue the damage. Shame on the parents!!!

Mike you have a lot if people rooting for you!!

  12. I think the mom is writing those negative reviews. She looked like she wanted revenge against Irvine.

  13. there is always gonna be haters, though i think alot of the posts are just there to offend they always look like the same person wrote then for each episode, Just do the best you can do

  14. I think it's obvious the parents are taking all the profits and keep telling mike the place is failing. They keep him working 24/7 in fear. I think the place is making plenty of money. That's why the parents got so mad about anyone wanting to see the books. And sure they wouldn't turn down 10 k more from restaurant impossible crew.

  15. They say they spent 750k. They didn't prove that and still won't let anyone see the books .

  16. I have known this place for a long time - the real reason why the restaurant was/is in such bad shape is because Mary (The mother) is a self-centered, controlling, vindictive, hateful, lying C-U-N-T! Robert Irvine and the Restaurant Impossible Team wasn't out of the parking lot before she was back to her spiteful ways!.... I hope that Mike (the son) just finally makes the decision to move on and leave his horrible, unsupportive parents to clean-up the mess they made of everything!

  17. I bet Mike's mother had a lot to do with the negative reviews honestly. People like her are about power and would ruin her own son's potential success just to be able To say "see, I was right"... Even though she wasn't at all.

  18. This restaurant will succeed if the bitch of a mother would let her son run the restaurant & make the changes as he sees fit. I can't believe that there are customers that would actually want her there. I've never seen a more arrogant woman that thinks she knows what this restaurant does or doesn't need. Mike just needs to tell his mom to keep her ass at home so he can succeed, because if he doesn't & she continues to stick her head into his business, there's no way he will ever b successful in the long run. I wish Mike all the best, & hopefully he will see that it is his mom that is hurting his business, & will fire her ass from her so-called hostess job.

  19. Those reviews all sound like they were written by Mike's miserable mother.

  22. Ms LaSuza must be a gem to deal with in the court room.

  23. I completely agree. I thought the same exact thing. Honestly it may not have been broken but the new decor is much better. Only the stubborn old mother would have thought that restaurant looked better before. In regards to the menu. If the food was so great before then why was the business bad? I always go back to the restaurants I love the food at. But it seems to me that the focus should have been on improving the advertising and outside look of the restaurant. Either way the biggest thing holding the restaurant back is Michael's unsupportive and arrogant parents. I felt really bad for him.
