The Kitchen @ Food Network - New Daytime Talk Show

Photo - Instagram
Last month, it was revealed that the Food Network would be producing a daytime talk show with Geoffrey Zakarian, Jeff Mauro, Sunny Anderson, Katie Lee, and Marcela Valladolid being hosts.  At the time, the show was going to be called The Scoop, but a press release that came out today now has the show called The Kitchen @ Food Network.

The show will be an hour long and air on Saturday mornings starting in early January.  To drum up interest for the new talk show, the Food Network will be doing a Thanksgiving leftover themed Google Hangout with Jeff Mauro, Sunny Anderson, Katie Lee, and Marcela Valladolid at 2pm ET this weekend.  This will start immediately after the Thanksgiving Live special airs (12-2pm).  You can participate in the Google Hangout and submit questions by going to foodnetwork.com/ThanksgivingHangout (there is an error at that link now, but it should be up shortly).

UPDATE - For upcoming episode descriptions of The Kitchen - See a later post here.

UPDATE 2/2014 - The Kitchen has been renewed for a 2nd season.

  1. And Katie Lee is the OZ daughter of this effort. Zero talent.

  2. At least she's no longer Katie Lee Joel.

  3. at least she isn't Kathie Lee...

  4. hilarious.

Christ on a cracker, can they not rip any idea off? This, On the Rocks, etc. They are as bad as FOX ripping off great British shows. Sunny Anderson, really?

I had to google to make sure Sunny had no culinary training (not that you need it to be a great cook, but she does not come across as an expert and her recipes seem lame). Yeah, she doesnt, but this is hilarious/sad: "Sunny lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with her 4 rescue cats, Cheddar Cheese, Truffle Tycoon, Milky Mouth and Sea Salt." -

  5. The Google Hangout thing today was just weird. If it was intended to kick off "The Chew Lite," well, it didn't do a very good job of it. Sandwich Guy and Marcela were piped in separately, as were Sunny and Katie Lee (though they were sitting together). The cameras didn't seem sure of who to focus on (because there was also the roundtable of Giada, Bobby, Ina and Alton).

"The Chew" crew has great chemistry. Maybe FN should try to come up with their own programming from scratch instead of churning out blatant ripoffs of better, more successful programs on other networks.

  6. Katie is an epic fail.

  7. The show was rather odd. I would suggest a new name for the show be The Leftovers, as the cast of this show are no where near the caliber of a Giada, Mario, etc. This group are seconds at best, don't see it doing well at all.

  8. This is obviously a riff on The Chew with former Iron Cheg Mario Batali and Top Chef contestant Karla Hall. However the new cast is comprised of hosts fron FN shows that did not fare well. The Sandwich King was a disappointment as wrll as the one featuring Mexican cuisine. I hope this nrew show brings something fresh and innovative to Satutday mornings rather than a CHEWed up version of previously previewed programs

I am disappointed in this show; too much noise clutter; everyone talking at one time, just stressful trying to figure out what they are saying. So much better the way the chew does it, by chefs taking turns.

  10. this ensemble doesn't have instant chemistry which could develop over time but why waste the time. develop a new format for a show and move on. sound is horrible

  11. I would love to see this network have a vegan chef and show people how great and healthy you can eat vegan. The statement I hear all the time from people is "what do you eat". OMG, I eat wonderful, flavorful, healthy foods. And going to markets you can get fresh, local and organic. There is an audience for vegan!

  12. This show is awful.....first and last time I will watch.

  13. The show can do without katie and marcelas, don't care for them and sunnys funny!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like the show but that Katie host has got to go! Probably won't watch again, but I like the other hosts.

  15. Where to start with this less than stellar rip-off of The Chew? This crew has zero chemistry at the moment; the audio sounds as if they built this phony looking set in a barn; the talent is talking over each other. Individually, the talent is okay, except for Katie. Katie Lee has a voice like fingernails on a blackboard in that millenially annoying kind of way (and sounds just like the chick on SNL who plays an annoying chick)--whatever she is saying is lost in the grinding sound of her voice that prohibits comprehension. Get her a vocal coach or gently show her the door. Realizing this is the maiden effort, I'll check back in months in the hope that this beast develops into a consumable product. Appoint Jeff as the "Clinton" of this deal and have someone in charge. And fix the audio!

  16. I was thinking the SAME thing- I wonder if SNL would do a skit!

  17. Can't deal with Katie Lee....won't watch again

Initially, too much of the hosts at one time. Jeffrey and Sunny seem to know what they are doing, but the other two talk too much during Jeffrey or Sunny's cooking time. Give us time to get to know each one individually, showcase their particular talent.
Food is not interesting or relative to everyday meals. Just too much too much.

  19. Katie Lee...very boring and looks completely uninterested in being there. Love Jeff, Sunny and Geoffrey they have personality!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Katie is so that character on SNL. Wait...is this show an SNL skit?
Too much over talking. Not really sure what is going on. I like the idea..but let's work on the format, give them coaching and work on the audio.

  21. TOO loud, TOO many voices at one time trying to be louder and funnier than the other person. Could be a good show but if it stays like it was today, I wouldn't watch it again. My volume on the TV was 4. I watch most shows at 10. Reminds me too much of "The View" which I watched ONCE for 10 minutes. I watched for 40 minutes and couldn't take the babble any longer

  22. First time watching love
    The Kitchen !

  23. I think the show will take some getting use to. I like Sunny and Geoffery. They worked well together. I don't care for the other ladies and the Sandwich King guy. He tries to hard to be funny, and isn't. He's a little annoying to me. I don't know if I can continue watching if Katie, Jeff and the other lady are on it. They did seem to over talk a lot and the audio was funny at times. Overall the show was okay. Some minor changes maybe needed in order to make it better.

Just watched the first show. OMG the

high pitched, nasally voice of Katie Lee set my teeth on edge. She is loud and pushy. Marcella brings nothing to the show. Geoffrey and Jeff and Sunny are ok, but better than this cheap CHEW knockoff!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Has anybody noticed that Sunny Anderson is annoyed by Jeff Mauro. She can barely look at him without rolling her eyes and has questioned his knowledge several times. Coming from someone with "little to no" culinary training herself, I'd be offended if I were him. This show relies on chemistry between the hosts and their own personalities. I find Jeff far more entertaining and funny than GZ.

    ReplyDelete
  26. So, this show is a bit weird...Geoffrey needs to get rid of the sports coat and tie.
Perhaps Clinton on The Chew can give GZ some tips on dressing for this show.
GZ I love you on Iron Chef and Chopped, but this is not your venue. You need your own show
"Entertaining Iron Chef style" Something with more flair than this. Wont watch this again.

  27. I thought that certain parts of the show were good. I especially liked Sunny and Geoffrey. They really made the show worth watching. The most annoying was the sandwich king guy. He talked all over everyone and tried too hard to be funny. I will watch again but something needs to be done about that sandwich guy.

  28. Katie Lee sucks and offers nothing. Marcella doesn't shine in this venue either. Jeff needs to tone the constant comical banter down. Sometimes the interpersonal banter got so involved the food part was lost, like when Jeffrey made the pasta left over salad with the rotissere chicken. Sunny's mike was off at one point so the sound quality was poor. Organization of everything was poor. Best part was when Jeffrey as "The iron chef" broke the champagne bottle.

  30. Hmm, many, many comments mention The Chew which make it sound like folks from The Chew are posting on here. Personally, I've never seen the Chew so I can't "compare" nor do I care to. I liked the show, laughed a lot but there should only be 4 people. Drop Katie Lee. Can't put my finger on her annoying-ness but it is truly there. Marcela is a great cook and teacher and I know she will begin to shine. I thought Jeff was funny but perhaps his nerves showed through a bit. All the rest was good. Loved the champagne demo...had to rewind it and laugh again. Glad the "Iron Chef" could laugh at himself! Ha!

  31. Ouch! First show of The Kitchen - major disappointment and was really looking forward to it. They continually talk over each other and the constant laughter is phony and irritating... almost sounds like canned laughter from the 60's. They're trying too hard to be funny instead of informative and they all have so much to actually share. Please revamp this show as it really has great potential!

    ReplyDelete
  32. OMG The Kitchen is lacking is so many things I can't begin to list them.
This show is no even close to The Chew when it comes to the cast....Katie Lee "Really"

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, not bad for a first show for the ensemble. I think it'll get better with time.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Just watched it first time. Loved it! Ideas that the average person can make. Liked what to do with left over. Things normal familes have in there refrigerator. I like what kitchen gadgets are useful.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love Geoffrey. Watched him on Iron Chef and chopped. But I saw The Kitchen this week and I have one comment...you must loosen up just a bit Geoffrey. Not too much though or it won't be you!

    ReplyDelete
  36. there's just no chemistry there was any of them and its a rip off of the chew..sorry don't mean to be negative just being honest.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Watched this last week and will never watch it again. Nothing like listening to 5 egotistical bores trying to talk over each other for an hour. It got louder as the hour progressed. Please replace this show with something else!

    ReplyDelete
  38. OMG, get rid of Jeff Mauro. When he won the next food network star as the Sandwich King, I was very disappointed. Jeffrey Zakarian is pretty awful too. Comes off very condescending.

  39. What are the different quinoas?

  40. First time watching, and I absolutely love this group of people. My new favorite show!

  41. I loved the show, love sunny, especially, she's for real. Love the sandwich man, so cute, so real, not phones. Thank you for the show.

  42. I like it. The food looks really good and easy.
