Food Network's August 2016 Programming Highlights

A little late with this, but here are some of the highlights of the Food Network programming scheduled to air on the channel in August:

  • The Chopped Grill Masters Napa finale which already aired and Sophina Uong won $50,000.
  • The series premiere of Food Network Star Kids on Monday, August 22nd at 8pm.
  • A Chopped Teen Tournament starting on Tuesday, August 23rd at 10pm with the grand prize being $25,000.
  • Cutthroat Kitchen - Camp Cutthroat 2: Alton's revenge begins on Wednesday, August 24th at 10pm.  The episode descriptions do not have the competitors, but there are three Food Network Star alums on this - Rue Rusike, Aaron Crumbaugh, and Emilia Cirker. (Link)
  • A family edition of The Great Food Truck Race that begins on Sunday, August 28th at 9pm.
  • The premiere of Guy's Superstar Grocery Games on Sunday, August 28th at 8pm.  Eight celebrity chefs will compete until there are four chefs remaining.  The final four will compete for $40,000 for their charity.
  • The series premiere of daytime show Smollett Eats Saturday, August 20th at 12:30pm. 
  • New primetime episodes of Beat Bobby Flay, Cake Wars, Chopped, Chopped After Hours, Chopped Junior, Cooks vs. Cons, Cupcake Wars, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Guy’s Grocery Games

NEW YORK – July, 2016 – Summer may be winding down in August, but the competition is just getting started on Food Network with all-new series, returning favorites and fierce tournaments that will pit the best of the best against each other in epic culinary showdowns. First, it’s the tournament finale of Chopped Grill Masters Napa on Tuesday, August 2nd at 10pm when the final four battle it out for a chance to win the $50,000 grand prize. Next up, kids take over the kitchen in their bid for stardom in the series premiere of Food Network Star Kids on Monday, August 22nd at 8pm, where young, talented competitors will compete for the chance to be the first-ever Food Network Star Kids champion! The teens are also taking it to the next level on the premiere of Chopped Teen Tournament on Tuesday, August 23rd at 10pm when Ted Allen and the judges will test their culinary skills for the chance to win the grand prize of $25,000. Then, Alton Brown is back as the dispenser of sabotages and master of mayhem in the tournament premiere of Camp Cutthroat 2: Alton’s Revenge on Wednesday, August 24th at 10pm putting chefs through the most torturous set of sabotages yet, all while battling the unpredictable elements of the outdoors. Next up, Guy Fieri is putting eight top celebrity chefs through an epic five-week competition of the most intense games ever in the tournament premiere of Guy’s Superstar Grocery Games on Sunday, August 28th at 8pm. Then, Tyler Florence returns for a family edition of The Great Food Truck Race on the season premiere Sunday, August 28th at 9pm, putting teams comprised of family members through the ringer as they cook and serve their way through southern California, racing from theme parks to food festivals. Food Network is also serving up primetime premieres of Beat Bobby Flay, Cake Wars, Chopped, Chopped After Hours, Chopped Junior, Cooks vs. Cons, Cupcake Wars, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Guy’s Grocery Games. Premiering Thursday, August 4th at 10pm – “So Many Obstacles”
Chef Anne Burrell and Olympian Apolo Ohno are going for the gold as they pit Italian chef Michele Castelli against New England chef Brian Miller. It’s up to them to pick the strongest culinary athlete they think can torch Bobby Flay!

Premiering Thursday, August 11th at 10pm – “Age Is Just A Number”
The Kitchen’s Sunny Anderson is teaming up with Grammy award-winner Kimberly Schlapman to add one more award to her mantle: the Beat Bobby Flay Award! They’re pulling out all the stops with seasoned chef Kevin Des Chenes and one of the youngest Beat Bobby Flay competitors to date, chef Jenny Dorsey.

Premiering Thursday, August 18th at 10pm – “Who’s Got This in the Bag?”
It’s personal for Maine restaurateur Mark Gaier, who’s here to redeem his partner’s prior loss to Bobby Flay, but chef and caterer Christopher Covelli isn’t going down without a fight. Here to pick sides are Bobby’s frenemies, Extra Virgin co-host and actress Debi Mazar and Cutthroat Kitchen judge Jet Tila.

Premiering Thursday, August 25th at 10pm – “Roll With The Punches”
West Coast boys, Cutthroat Kitchen judge Simon Majumdar and Chef Curtis Stone, are here to take down the king of the East Coast. They’ve brought in chefs Perry Cheung and Richard Mancini with one goal in mind: to knock out Bobby Flay.

Cake Wars

Premiering Monday, August 1st at 9pm – “Halo”
Get ready for the biggest battle the gaming world has ever seen, as four incredible bakers create action-packed cakes celebrating one of the biggest video games in the world, Halo! Guest judge Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, Microsoft’s director of programming, joins host Jonathan Bennett andjudges Ron Ben-Israel and Waylynn Lucas to help determine which cake creation will blast off to the Halo World Championship and take home $10,000.

Premiering Monday, August 8th at 9pm – “Madeline”
The bravest little redhead is coming from Paris to Cake Wars! Four amazing cake artists battle to have their cake at the center of a party celebrating Madeline, but only one will journey home with $10,000! Kate Clark, the founder of Yottoy, joins as guest judge alongside host Jonathan Bennett andjudges Ron Ben-Israel and Waylynn Lucas.

Premiering Monday, August 15th at 9pm – “Jelly Belly”
It’s the most colorful and flavor-filled Cake Wars battle ever, as four incredible bakers battle it out to have their cake creation as the centerpiece of a party celebrating Jelly Belly! Four bakers go to war, but only one can take home $10,000. Lisa Rowland Brasher, CEO of Jelly Belly, is on hand with host Jonathan Bennett andjudges Ron Ben-Israel and Waylynn Lucas to help choose the winner.

Premiering Monday, August 22nd at 9pm – “Paddington”
Paddington the Bear is onto his next adventure, bringing his old hat and battered suitcase to visit Cake Wars! Four bakers will battle to have their cake creation at the center of a party celebrating the 90th anniversary of Paddington the Bear, and R.W. Alley, the illustrator of Paddington, will help host Jonathan Bennett andjudges Ron Ben-Israel and Waylynn Lucas choose who wins $10,000.

Premiering Monday, August 29th at 9pm – “Where’s Waldo” – SEASON FINALE!
Grab your walking sticks and red-and-white striped shirts and get ready for a globe-trotting adventure as Cake Wars takes on Where’s Waldo. Four amazing bakers battle it out to have their cake creations at the center of a party celebrating everyone’s favorite hard-to-find traveler, Waldo, but only one can win $10,000. Brian Robinson, Dreamworks Animation’s head of creative design and development, joins host Jonathan Bennett andjudges Ron Ben-Israel and Waylynn Lucas.

Camp Cutthroat 2: Alton’s Revenge – Premieres Wednesday, August 24th at 10pm – TOURNAMENT PREMIERE!
Since the first Camp Cutthroat competition, Alton Brown has retreated deeper into the woods to plot his revenge, and the time has come to reveal his most devious sabotages yet. Sixteen new chefs have been chosen and lured into the wilderness to cook in his new backwoods location, but only one will make it back out and have the chance to win up to $75,000!

Premiering Wednesday, August 24th at 10pm – “Camp Cutthroat 2: Alton’s Revenge: Heat One, Axe to Grind”
In the first heat of Camp Cutthroat 2: Alton’s Revenge, three chefs have to cook a scramble with either an ax, a knife or an arrowhead. Then, two chefs have to make meat and potatoes while wearing a giant life jacket. Finally, one chef has to make dessert pancakes on an enormous compass.

Premiering Wednesday, August 31st at 10pm – “Camp Cutthroat 2: Alton’s Revenge: Heat Two, Big Foot Loose”
In the second heat of Camp Cutthroat 2: Alton’s Revenge, three chefs have to make hunter’s stew while dressed as forest animals. Then, two chefs have to make their trail lunch while wearing a giant big foot and one chef has to balance on a log in the lake as they make a skillet cookie.

Chopped

Premiering Sunday, August 7th at 9pm – “Fried Chicken Time”
Comfort food king, fried chicken, gets the royal Chopped treatment for three rounds! A weird syrup and a savory pancake are two of the ingredients that the chefs must use in their fried bird appetizers. The poultry party continues in round two with fried chicken entrées that have to include peach cobbler, and what will be expected from the chefs in a fried chicken-themed dessert round?

Premiering Tuesday, August 9th at 10pm – “Snail Snafus”
When the chefs get escargot in the appetizer round, they have just twenty minutes to prove that snails can work with the other ingredients in the basket, including some troublesome sprouts. Garlic knots prove to be easy to use in the entrée round, and a light and airy cake in the dessert round puts the chefs in a focused and inspired mood.

Premiering Sunday, August 14th at 9pm – “Hot Doggin'”
The theme for this competition is everyone’s favorite all-American bun-buster, the hot dog! In the first round, the chefs get some very rare hot dogs and an uncommon condiment. A tiny ingredient causes big problems for two of the competitors in the entrée round, and the last two chefs are left to tackle the strange challenge of making hot dog desserts.

Premiering Tuesday, August 16th at 10pm – “Souper Chefs”
Never stop cooking — a seventy-something chef who blew off retirement to return to the stove is among the four chefs competing! In the appetizer round, he and the rest of the group must make trout dishes that also include dill pickle soup. A weirdly spicy beer is one of the entrée basket ingredients. Then, dough and sugar in the dessert basket seem to give the finalists a head start, but looks can be deceiving!

Premiering Sunday, August 21st at 9pm – “Chili Cook-Off”
The chefs battle in a Chopped chili challenge as they put their own spin on the classic American dish. Chocolate and sausage are two of the mandatory ingredients in the appetizer round, and degrees of spice and levels of creativity are big factors in the entrée round. For dessert, chili-inspired sweet dishes are requested.

Premiering Tuesday, August 2nd at 11pm – “After Hours Revisits Pub Food, Holiday and Mother/Daughter-in-Law”
The judges get their chance to get their hands on the basket ingredients, after hours! Amanda Freitag finds herself in a bit of a pickle in round one, while Alex Guarnaschelli keeps the fryer in business and Marc Murphy manages to find the time to sip wine and shoot the breeze with Ted Allen. Then in round two, Geoffrey Zakarian takes a raw route with some holiday beef tenderloin. Finally, the women of the chopping block have round three in the bag — the wine-filled bag that is!

Premiering Tuesday, August 9th at 11pm – “After Hours Revisits Chopped Chocolate, Bizarre Foods and Sweetness” – SEASON FINALE!
After a long day of critiquing food, the Chopped judges love nothing more than to whip up their own motley masterpieces after hours. In round one, Geoffrey Zakarian’s secret love of potato crisps emerges in the form of dance, and Maneet Chauhan and Alex Guarnaschelli’s boozy dishes only loosen him up further. In a truly bizarre round two, pork bung inspires Aarón Sánchez’s new line of breathing apparatuses and plenty of generous seasoning. Marc Murphy does his best to sabotage others in the last round, but Maneet is determined to make the best dessert.

Premiering Tuesday, August 2nd at 10pm – “Grill Masters Napa: Grand Finale”- TOURNAMENT FINALE!
Four champion Grill Masters are each $10,000 richer. Now they return to see who will claim $50,000 more! Half the basket is taken up with a porky surprise in the appetizer round. A serious display of grilling acrobatics follows in the entrée round, when the three remaining champs must figure out what to do with a surf-and-turf combo. Finally, bananas and wine are two of the tricky dessert ingredients that the last pair of chefs must grapple with, as they battle for the grand prize and the title of Chopped Grand Champion!

Chopped Junior

Premiering Tuesday, August 2nd at 8pm – “Rattled”
When the young chefs must butcher and cook snakes in the appetizer round, will they be too squeamish to let their skills shine through? In the entrée round, a dense oddball of a cake must be worked into lamb shoulder dishes. Then, the last precious seconds of the round are a show of desperation and cooperation as the finalists are challenged to make creative, caffeinated desserts for the judges.

Premiering Tuesday, August 9th at 8pm – “Cup of Glee”
The judges preside over a competition that begins with a three and a half-pound peanut butter cup and a too-hot griddle that creates problems for one of the young chefs. An enviable cut of pork and a strong-flavored candy are two of the gifts in the entrée basket, then the finalists take on a gooey skillet of pink sweetness along with a healthy, crunchy snack in the dessert round.

Premiering Tuesday, August 16th at 8pm – “Nest Test”
The young competitors hatch a plan for what to do with a “birds’ nest” in the first basket, which is actually a common dish in disguise. Then, in the entrée round, the chefs learn a new word for a specific type of chicken and must hustle to get it cooked through. The two finalists have similar ideas for killer kiwi desserts, but will the judges love their dishes equally?

Premiering Tuesday, August 23rd at 8pm – “Nugget? Fuhgettaboutit”
The judges rule the judging table for this round of culinary competition! First, some of the young cooks are not fans of the kid-favorite chicken nuggets found in the appetizer basket. Then, will the junior chefs have the experience to properly cook the delicate bay scallops from the entrée basket? The end of the round prompts some unprecedented cooperation among the competitors, then in the dessert round, a hybrid fruit and some Mesozoic candies make for a fun time.

Premiering Tuesday, August 30th at 8pm – “Think Fig”
The young cooks get some expensive seafood in the first basket and struggle to make the most of valuable time in order to impress the judges. Then, bacon is discovered in an odd place in the entrée basket. Finally, some figs and fancy peaches must make it to the dessert plates.

Chopped Teen Tournament – Premiering Tuesday, August 23rd at 10pm – TOURNAMENT PREMIERE!
In this returning five episode stunt hosted by Ted Allen, sixteen talented teenaged chefs bring their energy and ambition to the Chopped kitchen! The culinary whiz kids must create the perfect appetizer, entrée and dessert as they navigate through each round. The winner from each episode will head into the grand finale round with a huge $25,000 grand prize on the line and the chance to be named the Chopped Teen Champion.

Premiering Tuesday, August 23rd at 10pm – “Teen Tournament: Battle 1”
Sixteen young chefs-in-training will compete to see who can become the Chopped Teen Tournament Grand Champion and score the $25,000 prize! In this first preliminary battle, the young competitors must make appetizers from a strange hybrid snack and a decadent pork product. In the entrée round, the teens must figure out how to combine poultry with a weird casserole, then work with a spicy nut and a savory green fruit for dessert.

Premiering Tuesday, August 30th at 10pm – “Teen Tournament: Battle 2”
Four new formidable young competitors fight to get to the finale, but in the first round, nerves and indecision keep everybody guessing whether all the teen chefs will finish their sausage appetizers. Seafood surprises await the teen chefs in round two, then some breakfast items take on a creative form in the dessert basket.

Cooks vs. Cons

Premiering Sunday, August 7th at 10pm – “Chicken Wingin’ It!”
While the judges attempt to suss out the pros and amateurs, things get twisted as the competitors are challenged to incorporate pretzels into their chicken wing dishes. The second round gets even fresher when the remaining competitors fight for the ultimate prize by working with mint.

Premiering Sunday, August 14th at 10pm – “Beer Bedlam”
Delicious ideas are brewing during the clash of the sandwiches, as professional and amateur cooks must utilize beer in their handheld masterpieces. Then, in round two, the surprise ingredient of muffins challenges the contestants to avoid a crummy result. It’s up to the judges to determine who’s a pro and who’s an average Joe!

Premiering Sunday, August 21st at 10pm – “Pie Fight”
It’s Sloppy Joe day in the kitchen, and the pros and amateurs must use pies as the surprise ingredient. Some cooks get crusty, but for others, the path to the cash prize is as easy as pie! Judges share cooking ghost stories in the second round when the remaining cooks must utilize campfire treats in their dishes.

Premiering Sunday, August 28th at 10pm – “Crab Cake Crazy”
The judges are put to the test determining whose crab cakes are the best between cooks and cons. When frozen vegetables must be used to create a winning dish, will it be a piece of cake for the working chefs or will the amateurs have the advantage? Then, it’s a booze cruise to the finish, as the secret ingredient of cocktails keeps the judges drunk with power.

Cupcake Wars

Premiering Monday, August 1st at 8pm – “Celebrity: Medieval Cupcakes”
Four celebrity bakers are about to get medieval, as Yvette Nicole Brown, Brooke Burke-Charvet, Carson Kressley and Vanessa Marano battle to prove that their cupcakes reign supreme. In this winner-take-all battle, they compete to have their cupcakes featured at a blowout party celebrating the 30th anniversary of Medieval Times. Host Jonathan Bennett and judges Florian Bellanger and Elizabeth Chambers are joined by Medieval Times cast members Lou Klein and Julie McCurdie!

Premiering Monday, August 8th at 8pm – “Celebrity: Twister”
It’s an all-star cupcake showdown as Coolio, Hannah Hart, Grace Helbig, Antonio Sabato, Jr. and Molly Sims compete to have their cupcakes featured at a blowout party celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic game Twister! Only one celebrity can win bragging rights and a donation to their favorite charity. Jen Boswinkel, vice president of gaming at Hasbro, serves as guest judge alongside host Jonathan Bennett and judges Florian Bellanger and Elizabeth Chambers.

Premiering Monday, August 15th at 8pm – “Celebrity: Matilda”
Drake Bell, Lori Greiner, Bob Harper and Heather Morris battle to prove their celebrity cupcake dominance and create show-stopping cupcakes for a party celebrating the wonder and whimsy of Roald Dahl’s classic story, Matilda. They’ll be eliminated one by one with help from guest judge Chloe Dahl, granddaughter of Roald Dahl, along with host Jonathan Bennett and judges Florian Bellanger and Elizabeth Chambers, until the last celeb standing walks away with bragging rights and a donation to their favorite charity.

Cutthroat Kitchen

Premiering Wednesday, August 3rd at 9pm – “He’s Just a Po’ Boy”
Two chefs make a catfish po’ boy in a giant cat condo, then two chefs prep their loco moco on a train moving around the kitchen. Finally, one chef has to make shoofly pie while wearing fly sight goggles.
