Middle Feast Wins The Great Food Truck Race Season 5

Photo - Food Network
Last night on the Food Network was the season 5 finale of The Great Food Truck Race, which took place in Florida.  If you follow this blog, you knew before the season started that the last two remaining trucks were Middle Feast and Lone Star Chuck Wagon.

In the finale, the Middle Feast food truck gained an advantage by winning double the seed money, and this advantage helped them win as they had $700 more than Lone Star Chuck Wagon at the end of the episode.  Middle Feast's prize was $50,000 and their own food truck, which they plan to operate in Los Angeles, California.  They also plan to use some of their money for a catering business.

If you are interested in following Middle Feast, here is their Facebook page, and here is their Twitter page.

In other Great Food Truck Race news, season 5 truck Military Moms plan to have a food truck up and running in January of 2015.

  1. It's frightening, but on the FN site, posters are accusing Middle Feast of cheating because they employed smart business strategies. There's also more than a hint of andi-Semitism at play.

  2. We discussed here several times in the context of several competition shows when something is "smart" and when something is "cheating".
I think the MF people certainly were shrewd. I am not sure it takes a lot of smarts to follow the popular food truck around (the one that busted their bust marketing, promoting, and advertising) and park next to them. I am not sure it takes a lot of "smarts" to not use the local seafood specifically requested in the competition and still, somehow, win it (how one wonders)

They were at the bottom almost every time during this competition and I am pretty sure no one will argue that they squeaked by at least the first 3 or 4 weeks.

  3. Wow.....the one who is so busy correcting everyone else's mistakes, made a mistake himself. Or are you going to blame it on AutoCorrect? Some Grammar Policeman you turned out to be. lol

  4. BTW, it's not andi-Semitism.

  5. Who exactly made anti-semitic remarks, I took a look and didn't see any. Or are you one of those who just like to holler it indiscriminately? 'Better get on that Edit button.

  6. You have to REALLY be looking for it. I think MoHub is referring to the post that mentions that maybe Bob Tuschman had something to do with that particular team winning. You can connect the dots.

  7. It's called a typo, and I've fixed it. There's a big difference between poor grammar and clumsy fingers. I'm also not a "himself."

And i find your username very appropriate.

  8. If it's the post I'm thinking of, I think Susie Fogelson was also mentioned. That was just someone who knows the FN hierarchy, those two being main decision makers. I've seen a few discussions over how minorities in general with sob stories look to be winning FN's competitions who shouldn't have. I don't see that as anti-semitic, just something that appears to be happening.

  9. I was thinking of offering you my name as you've proven yourself to be just that.

I'm not surprised you couldn't just admit your mistake, fix it and move on. It's a known problem with know-it-alls like you. My mistake is I took it for granted you were smart enough to actually figure out your mistake. You're not. I'll try it again.....

    "BTW, it's not SPELLED andi-Semitism."

  10. Lenny's Chuck Wagon could have been a contender!

  12. Yeah that's the one. Like I said, you really have to be looking for the offense. But I kinda saw it too.

  13. Did you notice FN deleted not only the supposed offending post, but also the replies, including mine, which only questioned the lopsidedness (is that a word?!) of the challenge, with no reference to ethnicity?

  14. Hardly surprising. Hence why I don't bother commenting over there anymore.
I am thankful for Matt for giving us a forum where we can talk openly without being censored.

  15. I don't even bother going to Foodnetwork.com anymore either. I get a lot more information and discussion here. Thanks, Matt!

  16. You also get more truth here. FN likes to liberally deploy the whitewash on its site. One only has to see its inability to inform viewers about the many Restaurant: Impossible sales, backslides, and outright failures to doubt the network's integrity.

  17. Middle Feast had seafood on the menu, just not the shrimp. Given that Tyler saw them decide to not buy and said nothing, it's clear that wasn't a problem.

If there's anything to gripe about, it's that the final challenge was inherently unfair. The tiny amount of cash to start with would have put any team at a disadvantage that would have been difficult to overcome.

As for all the talk of trolling at FN, I feel like the trolls are starting to come here instead. It's getting harder and harder to find a thread where people aren't sniping at each other and that makes me sad.

  18. I'm also surprised to see this message board take that turn; however, on the other hand, I'm glad to see that opinions here are not censored by a biased moderator.
After watching the finale Sunday, I fell asleep right before the winner was announced. I have to say I was rooting for Middle Feast, because I thought they were shrewder, harder workers, and better cooks and players.

  19. True - yet another reason to not even bother going onto that website.

  20. So glad the Texans did not win... They just took advantage of people charging them 3 times what the food was worth. That is a problem with this show format, no need for repeat customers and some people will try anything once maybe even thinking they might get on TV.

  21. If people didn't respond to the trolls, the trolls would ultimately get bored and would go somewhere where people will play their games.

  22. Mitt, I agree. Initially, Lone Star was my favourite. Then they started price gouging, and I lost respect for them. I know everyone had to play with their pricing, but Lone Star really got bad about it.

  23. "Cheating" is charging people 20 bucks for toasted ravioli and 30 bucks for salty Tilapia...

  24. Oh yeah well you eat at Guy Fieri's American Bar and Grill and like it!

  25. Where would Lenny store his toilet in a food truck? I think that problem eliminates him.
We've already seen how he needs to sit on a toilet to eat chocolate.
