The Breakfast Place - Restaurant Impossible Update

On this week's episode of Restaurant: Impossible, Robert Irvine and his crew are in San Jose, California to makeover The Breakfast Place. The Breakfast Place is a breakfast restaurant owned by Mexican immigrants Cristina and Raquel.  They have been in the service industry for decades, but are currently struggling as owners of a restaurant.  Robert finds that the restaurant is uninspired, dirty and close to closing. He will need to help save their friendship and their restaurant before it is too late.

As I normally do with Restaurant: Impossible episodes, I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments and reviews about The Breakfast Place to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Robert Irvine visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Restaurant: Impossible):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Love giving my business to locals... good food and wonderful staff.. my hidden secret"
  • "In an old strip mall. Doesn't look like much. But oh boy is the food great! They recently had a remodel and it looks much cuter inside than it used to. I recommend trying to stay with her traditional Mexican breakfast dishes. The chili Verde with eggs is so amazing. I always get enough so that I can have the rest of the chili Verde for lunch. I adore this place."
  • "Stumbled upon this hidden gem. I'm of the mindset that the most unassuming eateries serve the best food. The Breakfast Place has proven me right once again! After being turned away at a fancier spot down the street, even though they weren't crowded, we opted to not wait an hour and have absolutely no regrets. The food here was nothing short of amazing! Walked in the door and was greeted immediately in the most friendly manner. Very family friendly atmosphere and service was good. My kids ordered the churro French toast, which they loved, and I ordered Huevos Rancheros, which I loved. Definitely recommend, don't skip on this one."
  • "First time here friendly service had our coffee ready to go. The food was delicious and the staff was very attentive! This will be my new breakfast spot"
  • "Wonderful find! A real hidden gem. My family has been looking for a good breakfast spot and, finally, we've found it. The food was great and the menu had a number of things we all would have liked to try. The staff are warm, friendly, and make you feel at home. This is a fantastic family friendly place that will definitely have us back again."
  • "Absolutely fantastic breakfast! Had the Beef Barbacoa Tostada, Al Pastor Hash, and Churro French Toast from the Special Robert Irvine suggested menu. Will be back soon."

Negative Reviews:
  • "This place is the worst breakfast I've ever had $16 for eggs bacon and toast toast with cheap white bread sourdough eggs were small and cooked wrong potatoes were old and disgusting, The restaurant was terribly dirty!"
  • "The seating location stank of sewage and bleach, the order took an exorbitant amount of time to arrive, the food portion size was puny for the excessive price, the food itself was tasteless, oily, greasy, and they had the gall to serve me BURNT bread. BURNT."

Other News and Links:
  • The Restaurant Impossible makeover for The Breakfast Place happened in September 2021.
  • Here is The Breakfast Place Facebook page and it appears they do not have a separate website. They also don't post too often on their Facebook page and have gone months without a post.
  • Here are the reviews for The Breakfast Place from Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google.

The reviews for The Breakfast Place since the Restaurant Impossible visit are mostly positive with people liking the food, service, and staff. Many reviews refer to The Breakfast Place as a hidden gem and also talk about wanting to come back again.  The Breakfast Place doesn't have much of a presence online such as a website or menu to view, so they may want to do some updates on their Facebook page after appearing on the show.
