The Paula Deen Network Christmas Video

The Paula Deen Network releases short preview videos every now and then to try to get people to subscribe to the network.  Their most recent Christmas video has drawn some criticism from a lot of websites such as Eater and Huffington Post, who wonder what the heck is going on in the video.  The network kept it politically correct by titling the video with "Happy Holidays", and the video is below:

I am not sure if this will draw any more subscriptions from the public, but I guess they are hoping for the thought of "there is such thing as bad publicity."

If you are interested in what Thanksgiving looked like on the Paula Deen Network, here was a preview video of that.

  2. What...The...[censor] was that?!? This was beyond frightening and good gravy what was going on with one of her boys with that fake mustache? I-I need to go bleach my brain and disinfect my eyes.

  3. For me, it's the lace dickey over the bare chest and under the smoking jacket.

  4. That too. This is something that I wish I didn't click on 3 hours before a date, I hope I'll be able to get it out of my head before 6.

  5. After this train wreck, the PD Network will self destruct in 3 - 2 - 1 seconds.

  6. I'm surprised YouTube didn't self destruct.

  7. Unfortunately, the comments on HuffPost lead me to believe that, if anything, Paula will garner even more subscribers for her network.

  8. I saw some of those comments and how some are still pissed at FN for pulling her. I'm sorry but I don't think they pulled her due to the racist comment, I believe that was a cover-up for her diabetes,

  9. I think it was actually the cumulative effect of the stuff that was going on at the restaurant her brother was running, the whole diabetes scandal, and the fact that her ratings were way down. The one utterance of a racist epithet was the least of what brought her down.

  10. What you said, and the woman is just plain ignorant. She wouldn't have a vocabulary without "y'all"...it's her filler for every other word.

  11. Symon still does plenty on Food Network: Iron Chef, and America's Best Cook, for example. And he used to have a show on Cooking Channel in which he worked with culinary students. He definitely has teaching chops, and his ABC contract shouldn't be a barrier.

Zakarian, on the other hand, couldn't even get past the first round in a competition in which he was teaching his wife how to cook. And Anne Burrell won that one mentoring her sister.

  12. You obviously haven't spent any time in the Deep South. They all talk like that, as did I after playing down there for 8 weeks. It took months to stop saying "y'all" and lose the slight accent I picked up.

  13. Y'all come back now Ya'hear!

I can't decide if I want to get the Paul Deen Network or the Sarah Palin network....

  14. Are you sure you want to start making stupid political comments...again? Your name is more than enough.

  15. I've spent quite a bit of time in the South. I had two Aunts and many cousins who lived in Aiken, SC, and many of whom still live in South Carolina. NONE of them say "y'all." One of my best friends lives in Charlotte, NC...we speak on the phone often, and I've never once heard her say "y'all."

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's odd. I lived in and around Columbia, SC, and I heard it all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have been living in NC for the rest of my life. I never use "y'all". You must have been hanging out with some older people. That's where I hear the word from most of the time. If you think all people in south use y'all or other crap you seen on TV then you are greatly mistaken.

  18. You're right there. I tend to pick up accents and speech patterns when I spend extended time in another location. A week in eastern Canada changed all my vowels and made me uncontrollably polite.

  19. I'm just wondering if I'm the only person that noticed this but it seemed like the hubby and the other son (the sandy blonde one) didn't seem like they didn't want to be there.

  20. I am not paying 10.00 a month to watch. Foodnetwork, start re-airing Paula and take the wind out of that 10.00 sail. Gah!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you have a message for Food Network, post it on the FN site. FN Gossip is an independent—thank G-d!—entity and not an arm of FN.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good Lord, how is that supposed to entice people to subscribe to her misbegotten site? It just reinforced the information that she's foul-mouthed and a heavy drinker. And I used to like Bobby Deen. Now definitely past tense. He must have been VERY drunk.

  23. Well, one does have to consider that NC isn't GA, which is far more Deep South. Besides, as an affectation, it's almost a trademark of Paula's and is part of the persona she's developed for the public.

Not that I particularly like it, y'all.

  24. It is amazing that someone in the PD network food chain or her family didn't stop her from posting this garbage. Are they afraid to stand up to her? Someone needs to step in and speak up. Does she, her husband or her sons have NO sense?

  25. Paula bought all of her content from FN, so you'll likely never see anything from Paula on FN. I think a lot of her fans will feel the same as you do. Most people are trimming their in-home entertainment budgets; canceling cable and subscribing to Netflix or Hulu, which cost less than 10 bucks per month on average and offer a variety of content. Who is going to pay 120 bucks a year for such limited content?

    ReplyDelete
  26. The sad thing is, the people in her circle probably don't see anything wrong with her post.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That was pretty light on the politics, you need to stop whining.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rednecks acting like fools, and making slop to mixed reactions from the fattest, oldest, lamest audience ever....

    ReplyDelete
  29. And you think they don't read here? I bet they do. But that being said I've edited the comment to be less directed at FN.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow didn't know she bought her content back. This new pay per medium just seems all wrong for her brand, and as you said it's way over priced.

  31. He cared only in the respect that it was easy for him! He's now fishing instead of cooking, that's good news for us, and the fish as well. I hope he maintains his boat better than his restaurant, otherwise he'll wind up at the bottom of Rehobeth Bay!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Um, how about stop bring up politics in a non-political area altogether?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Not at all. The fans found it funny and don't understand how anyone could dislike it. Just read the comments on HuffPost, and you'll see that the members of Team Paula believe she can do no wrong.

  34. But with the ceiling still black, it didn't seem any brighter at all

    ReplyDelete
  35. I forget who the designer was. Ever notice they used to always use either red. olive green or bright blue. Then put some rectangles on the wall, like any crap in a frame. This remodel didn't seem different as the ceiling was still dark. Liked the blue, though

  36. Oh, god, I read some of those comments. It felt like I walked into a brainwashed cult or something and to add to some comments that where posted previously. I did notice something in the video, it seemed as if the husband, and Jamie Deen didn't want to be there. Maybe I am reading into it too much (like always) but they gave me the impression that they would rather be anywhere but there. Especially when Bobby came on the scene in that god awful outfit and started to act the way he did. (I don't know, just guessing here, and probably reading in to it too much again.)

  37. It may vary from person to person, now when I was in Georgia for a brief time heading down to Florida to visit family, some did say y'all, and others did not. Also, let's not forget not everyone in the south is going to say y'all as much as Paula does.

  38. The therapy part is essential when its essential. If a relationship is dysfunctional and causing problems, fixing everything but the power struggles or whatever is going on won't solve the problem. Irvine is to be commended for his insight into where the problems are and tackling them - even when, ESPECIALLY when, they are beyond basic restaurant problems.

  39. I dunno. I can see why they don't bother. They don't have anything to defend. isn't the stat something like 80% benefit from the RI intervention? So this is one of the 20%. I don't think they have anything to defend. Most of us who watched it are laughing at the brothers post RI hissy fit. We know what we we saw. Ten to one they don't last another 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  40. haha @RI fan. Nailed it. Great review. Especially of Javier, the arrogant, playboy younger brother.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think these owners are cocky, the one brother smirked his way through the entire episode. While I have no doubt that the drama is amped up, I don't believe the show fakes dirty establishments or lazy employers and employees.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The restaurant was filthy. Really gag-a-maggot disgusting. Now they are trashing RI? Sorry, that justs says it wil be filthy again. Who would eat there?

  43. When they're talking about 'stolen money' they're talking about the RETAIL costs associated with 'stolen' drinks, not the ACTUAL costs of the liquor and beer. That's nonsense meant to make the loss by theft seem worse than it was.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The cost to the establishment is very low; the retail cost they would have charged you as a regular patron is high.

    ReplyDelete
  45. As a gastropub, the ceiling was always going to be dark; by hanging things from the ceiling they effectively 'lowered' it to give it a more homey feel, making it a pub and not a warehouse.

  46. I think Tyler is doing great. I just love him. I am disappointed to see that Anne is picking favorites though. She has picked out the cheerleader and thinks she is great at everything and is very mean to the others. At least Tyler is the same to all the contestants and does not pick favorites.
