Food Network Star Episode 6 Elimination - Plus Star Salvation Episode 3

Tonight on Food Network Star, the remaining contestants had to come up with two products that represent their brand and style.  They present their two ideas to the judges, who help them narrow it down to one, and they then have to pitch this product to a panel of food executives from Target, Kellogg's, and Kraft.  It kind of reminded me of a low budget Shark Tank.

Continue reading for a quick recap and to see who went home tonight.  Also, after the jump is the third episode of Star Salvation, where Lovely will compete against the eliminated contestant.  I will also have who was eliminated from Star Salvation as well:

Here are the products everyone pitched and how they did:

Nikki Dinki -Made 2 different vegetable sauces with bad colors.  Pitched a roasted pepper sauce and was stumped on where it would be sold in stores.
Russell Jackson - Made Bacon candy and chocolate bourbon ginger ice cream. Pitched the bacon candy and won the judges over with his presentation.
Chad Rosenthal - Went with Baked Beans and a dry rub seasoning instead of hair gel.  Pitched the baked beans which the judges thought were too sweet.
Rodney Henry - Made 2 different pie kits.  Pitched a quiche pie kit with a song, which made Alton angry, but won the ladies over.
Damaris Phillips - Peach and chili pepper jam and a bourbon vinaigrette.  Pitched the jam and came across as too scripted.
Stacey Poon-Kinney - Gluten-free, dairy-free cookie and cayenne butterscotch.  Pitched the butterscotch and had a huge stumble
Chris Hodgson - Smoked apple red pepper jam and sweet corn soup.  Changed the name to smoked apple ketchup and pitched that.  Went over the time limit to say he was donating some of the profits to charity.

It seemed like they forced everyone into using a glass jar for their packaging, with the exception of Russell.

The top performances went to Damaris, Stacey and Russell.  Not sure how Stacey made it in there or maybe even Damaris, but that may have been the editing which made them seem so bad.  The bottom two contestants were Rodney Henry and Chris Hodgson, and the judges decided to send Chris home.

After being eliminated, Chris went to Last Chance Kitchen, I mean Star Salvation to take on Lovely, with the loser being eliminated for good.  The video of Star Salvation episode 3 is below, and you can scroll down to read who was eliminated as well.

Lovely defeated Chris in this episode of Star Salvation, so he will not become the next Food Network Star.  Lovely sends another contestant home, and advances to the finale of Star Salvation, so only 1 more episode of this.  What are your thoughts on the latest elimination?

  1. Ah, Phony and Mr. Infomercial against each other in Star Salvation. I disliked both Chris and Lovely, but I dislike Chris more.

  2. Funny about that because I loved him in the Food Truck Race and wanted him to win, I thought he worked his butt off in that competition and deserved it. But this I don't like either. He comes across as ... I dunno. I guess infomercial annoying is right.

  3. This episode felt so random & in my opinion a poorly executed episode. Felt like they could've done this for the first half of the episode and do more of a cooking/camera challenge for the second.

  4. Memo to Rodney: the words "sucker" and "man" are henceforth off limits.

  5. This episode was rather boring; it also revealed that the judging is hypocritical in that Damaris has been told to pull way back on the sexiness, and then Giada wears that too short of a dress, has cleavage for days and tells Rodney to 'give it to me'. Also, the judges keep telling Stacey that she's too rehearsed, but when a chef does a show on the network, she or he reads from a teleprompter--if that's not rehearsed, I don't know what is! As far as who went home, I feel Nikke should have been booted because of her big flub of where her sauce would be sold in stores when pitching her product. Russell seems to be coming around; Chad needs to get back on track because if he doesn't, he'll be the next to go. I sure hope Lovely isn't brought back as she is a big phoney.

  6. Although yes this episode was a little off... this is still a mysterious season since there is no clear cut winner yet... theyre all good but also faltering as well so its unclear.... now that Lovely won another and has been beating out a couple big dogs, shes most likely going to come back... but we will have to see what happens next...

  7. Totally correct regarding Giada v. Damaris.

  8. Totally think Stacey is who they picked to be the winner from the get-go.

  9. Correct re: Giada v Damaris, but the whole show is totally hypocritical. Any time they criticize someone's food, they should reply, "Two words: Sandra Lee."

  10. Nicki also asked the judging panel members what they meant by marketing. How are you going to market your product if you don't even know what the term encompasses?

  11. I think it's patently obvious that Stacey is the anointed one. She will cruise into the finale and will win regardless of how the viewers vote. I would prefer Damaris, as she's an instructor, can cook, and has a nice personality, but the judges keep screwing with her head, and I think they're hoping they can make her fall flat on her face.

  12. I think it was actually "merchandising," but the point still stands.

  13. Not to mention that she seems fun and bubbly AND the Food Network's "Southern Cookin'" niche is now vacant. There's already plenty of "working moms cook dinner" shows on FN...

  14. The rampant hypocrisy makes this show so frustrating to watch. I should probably just do my blood pressure a favor and delete it from the DVR right now :)

  15. Stacy is totally being set up to win. The whole too perfect/rehearsed is a lame ploy and honestly she sounded like a pro in thr 4th of July ep.

I think Nikki has the best concept but is lacking the personality to get the votes.

  16. Yeah u are right. And it's starting to piss me off.

For some reason, I cannot get past the fact that she had a FAILING restaurant that had to be bailed out by the network already. I know that a restaurant business is a difficult one and not the same skills are required as when doing a show, but still. To me, it shows a lack of business sense which for sure is needed.

  17. Of course, when this was filmed, the Powers That Be did not yet know Paula Deen would become such a liability. And although her show would have been canceled for poor ratings regardless, FN might have been leery of filling the vacancy with another Southern cook.

  18. Damaris is the is clearly the winner. It is so obvious. I personally will not watch her program. But bet your nutty, she is IT.

  19. Giada is established and can wear what the heck she wants. When a person is starting out (in any field), they rarely have the luxury of bucking traditional guidelines.

  20. Trisha's Southern Kitchen...

  21. I actually really like Trisha's show. It's Southern cooking but without the rampant "Y'ALLS" and pounds of butter of Paula's show.
