Where is Justin Warner?

With the new season of Food Network Star upon us, a lot of people keep asking me if I have any updates on Justin Warner.  So here are the most recent updates that I know of:

On June 2nd, Justin tweeted:

Also, in a recent (6-02) interview with Flavor HD, when asked what more we expect to see from him, he stated ("you knows" removed):

“The network and I are still kinda talking about what tweaks and formats we wanna experience and go through and show off, and where I fit in the grand scheme of things. Like, I’m not always going to be the bad boy next door for the rest of my life, so were going to need to work to figure out where I stand in the long term relationship with Food Network.  But I have absolute confidence that it will be excellent TV because, you know, that’s what we do.  We put on our pants, we whip out the towel, and start beating powdered sugar.”

Judging by the above quotes and the fact that Rebel Eats was not included in the upcoming Food Network Series for 2013, it sounds like if he returns, it will be on a different show or Rebel Eats will be tweaked.

He has done some Chopped "Rebel Remixes" and is doing Food Network Star "Rebel Recaps" on the Food Network Blog.  So, he has done more writing for the Food Network than he has had appearances on TV.

  1. I've suspected from the git-go that it's at least as much Justin's doing as the network's.

  2. I don't know what the hold-up is. Do the show that was planned, just don't act like a d**k. Problem solved.

  3. I quit watching the NFNS because it's just a ratings grabber. They never follow through with a cooking show. I'm ready to give up on FN all together. I want to see people cook and learn from them not watch a show about a restaurant or a contest. I think they should change their name to the game show network...oh wait that's already taken!

  4. I hope they still do the rebel w a culinary cause idea . I love the title and that's what Justin is all about . I think Justin would draw a wider audience to food network to younger and single cooks that want to experiment or want to recreate the food they had while dining out . I think Justin has as a following on Social media sites like twitter and Facebook. And I hope our reponse helps him get another show .

  5. Emily Ellyn didn't need to win as she is obviously doing just fine. Too bad about Justin, but what we saw on his one episode was not his original concept.

  6. What happened to Alton producing a show for Justin?

  7. So I take it you've never seen Guy's Big Bite, Big Daddy's House, Ten Dollar Dinners, Aarti Party or Sandwich King. Much of the pure cooking stuff is now on Cooking Channel

  8. My thoughts exactly, where is Justin?!? I think it's pretty bs that you have him writing more than entertaining your television audience. You moved onto the New Next Food Network Star and left, Justin Warner, a real star, hanging out to dry. He always turns bad into good, dust into gold, like Alton always does. Get him on tv. What's the hold up!?

  9. I don't know about limepiglet's area, but where I live... Cooking Channel requires upgrading to a higher (i.e. more expensive) tier of cable channels. Right now I'm running on a promo which allows me to see it... but once the promo's over, I'll probably drop back to the lower tier.

  10. This whole rebel thing is kind of tiresome. Schtick can only take you so far. I understand the importance of having a marketable POV, but Justin's isn't believable. He seems about as "bad boy" as an after dinner mint. Let your talent speak for itself, Justin. You've already got the part.

  11. I'm done with nfns. Justin was the freshest thing to come to the network since Alton Brown. Yet they choose to ignore him. It's kinda a shame.

  12. the Justin Warner "MIA" routine on the part of the Food Network is getting old and it's apparent he's been dropped and will not be coming back. any contractual obligations most likely have been satisfied as his weekly written commentaries have now disappeared.

Scripps owns the network and it has been reported that Bob Tuschman, a man with no professional experience in either the food or restaurant business, effectively, makes programming decisions solely based on ratings and focus groups. Likewise, the Food Network operates its website with an iron fist and makes it practically impossible for viewers to offer any input whatsoever.

I realize this is a business BUT it's ridiculous to ask viewers to invest time in a shows like, "The Next Food Network Star" knowing full well that they have no intention of giving the winner a "fair" shot of establishing themselves as an on air personality.

  13. Seriously. Like most other respectable channels, it's turned into a reality show network. While I don't mind too much, the problem is it's not balanced. It's over-run with competitions & people driving around eating. I'm just disappointed because I did want to see what Justin had to offer. They knew what they were doing. They knew he was a "rebel with a culinary cause" That's been his thing from day one & they fed into it so badly & loved it so much, now they're trying to change that image? They're wasting valuable time worrying about what his image will be down the line, when they should just be showing off his image as is. I also don't see why he can't be "the rebel" forever. The fact that they're all thinking about his image down the line makes me feel like he's not as genuine as I thought he was.

  14. I agree. Usually when people make different or "rebellious" food it's a lot of ingredients that are out there & really for adventurous eaters. I have to admit I'm not as much of an adventurous eater as I'd like to be & that's why Justin was cool because he did classic things, with classic ingredients in a way that was different. I wouldn't have to eat pig brains or something to have a wonderful & unique eating experience. That cesar salad he made on his pitch was amazing!

  15. Those rarely come on. I watch Food Network a lot & the only ones I've seen are 3 episodes of Guy's Big Bite, 1 episode of Sandwich King & 1 episode of Ten Dollar Dinners. Clearly they still show cooking shows, but it's not too frequent. It's on certain days @ certain times. Every time I tune in it seems to be a marathon of DD&D. Every show they advertise is competition, that whole Giving You The Business crap, & all of these spying shows it's a bit ridiculous.

  16. Justin is horrible and doesnt need a show. He's not cooking anything worth eating, nor is he cooking anything real people are going to eat. Food network star isnt about cooking anymore. Its about pushing annoying people on the american television audience. I'm done. Goodbye food network. Hello duck dynasty.

  17. We voted for Justin, we want to watch Justin. Lets get it together already.

  18. I absolutely agree. Since the Public voted Food Network owes us a show which should have aired before the Next "Next Food Network Star". Last Season was the best with the most "Out of the Box" possiblities and the most exciting winner!

  19. All I have to say about the degeneration of the Food Network is..Does anyone remember David Rosengarten? No "Set", no props, not even a sink, just great cooking demo and information.

  20. It's sad because I watched Justin's season and this season too. Is this all BS? Will Damaris, Rodney,and/or Russell just be put on "hold" for a year too? Or did they think that they liked Justin being different was good and then changed their mind?

  21. Does anyone else want Alton to do 'Good Eats" again. I learned a lot of cool stuff from that show, and I'm not interested in reruns. Wouldn't it be cool if he did new ones with Justin?

    ReplyDelete
  22. FYI, he is doing Good Eats again, but it will be a Youtube series that will be shorter episodes... I think like 5 mins.

  23. Good to know, thanks!

  24. I just wish they'd show the real cooking shows. Everytime someone wins the next food network star I feel like they're just a temporary add on.

  25. I continue to watch Chopped and Iron Chef--shows in which technique and skills are paramount.NFNS and Alton Brown's new show are just the Emperor's New Clothes.
Tjis network is a failed enterprise.

  26. since it's been 6 months since anyone posted on this thread, I think it would be safe to assume that Justin Warner's return to the Food Network as an "on air" personality is negligible.

it is also apparent that neither Warner or the FN intend to address the "why" the Next Food Network Stars made such a big deal over his selection to have him, literally, vanish.

  28. well, I suppose if Warner is content to be an asterisk (*) in the Food Network's universe that's his prerogative.

it does, however, give this viewer pause as to how much time I will ever spend in the future watching or voting on shows such as "The Next Food Network Star. after all, the indirect promise to the viewer was "watch our show; vote for your favorite; and if he/she wins we'll give them a TV show that runs more than three (3) episodes and is not scheduled at 3 AM in the morning.

some where, some place, someone pissed some off and I'll guarantee the "back story" on what happened to Warner's show is probably far more interesting than watching Ina make a salad with a $15 can of imported Tuna.
