Winner of Next Iron Chef Redemption - Poll

Next Iron Chef Redemption Finalists
Photo - Food Network
With the 3 finalists for The Next Iron Chef Redemption set, who do you want to win the competition this Sunday?  The fan vote at Food Network, as of writing this, has 53% for Alex Guarnaschelli, 34% for Amanda Freitag, and 13% for Nate Appleman.  The vote for the Next Food Network Star on here was pretty accurate, but viewer votes actually counted for something in that competition.  As some people think the poll at the Food Network site is "rigged," we will do one here:

Feel free to discuss who you are rooting for in the comments section.

UPDATE - Alex Guarnaschelli is your Next Iron Chef.

  1. I think Guarnaschelli should have been booted already: she didn't meet the challenge twice in a row. So, from that, I think FN is going with a FN chef no matter what, which means Appleman is out.

And I think that's one reason Falkner was booted: she's not a FN chef. She's been robbed twice now. I still watch, but is it about the food and the challenges any more? Hell no. The producers already had an idea of who they wanted and are skewing the results in that direction.

  2. Yeah this poll pretty much shows Amanda and Alex switched in numbers! But what we want who we think will win are pretty different things. Im trying to stay positive and think Freitag could win (the preview shows her quite happy so I feel she may be a shoe-in for top 2) but somehing screams that this was somewhat rigged for Guarnaschelli to win so Im almost not surprised if she ends up winning... Im just going to be shocked if Appleman does end up winning... its possible hes the final 2 against Freitag thus devastating Guarnaschelli once more but we wont know til sunday I guess.

I just feel like yeah Guarnaschelli has he drive she always has Zakarian's sous chef position to be happy about ... Freitag has started shining through this and I just feel happier if she won it.. after Faulkner, Freitag was my other favorite to win anyways.

  4. I don't really care who wins at this point. Thanks for robbing Falkner of the title. Haven't watched and don't plan on watching anymore.

  5. I think Appleman loses then Amanda rips off Alex's head and eats it in front of the judges.  She wins by default.  I'm sorry, I can't stand to watch Freitag.  She just bothers me.

  6. i do think it's rigged...alex's pathetic attitude such as "if they let me go so be it i did my BEST"...is just so arrogant and more of a "fu* you i don't care rude attitude" and im surprised shes made it this far... i think she is pretentious pathetic arrogant and im sure her food isn't that good...i think far better chefs were already eliminated and this is totally rigged...I already had a feeling freitag or guarnascelli were going to make it to the finals....appleman probably won't win and i think this has been rigged for either of those women to win....i dont think freitag or guar are iron chefs at all and i think will fail at being iron chefs if they are chosen....I think the entire competition is totally rigged and the judges are idiots for the most part...if they really are judging...

  7. Alex won't win based on her previous dishes.

  8. I too think that its rigged for the fact that they want Alex to win. She thinks that she is something and I can't stand her and when she is on Chopped as a judge she always puts the chefs down no matter what. Her attitude sucks and she thinks that she is all that and she isn't anything

  9. Wow, I didn't want to think it was *that* fixed but that was a blantant fix.

  10. It's rigged! Alex was going to win. Why did they even have a competition!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree why did they even have a competition! First off two of chopped judges are competing and Zacharian is a judge! I knew from the get go Alex.Guarnaschelli was going to win! Because she wants to be seen as a superior chef and.judge on chopped! I knew she was going to win even more so when they did not once put her in the bottom 2 and let her pass with that nasty salad with peppermints. I mean a salad on iron chef and she was safe! #IronChefRigged!

  12. I found Alex to be more fun to watch and not at all pompous and pretentious as so many of the other chefs. I'm so excited she won. Faulkner fans apparently are still sulking. I'm glad she didn't move on...we didn't really need to watch who looks like the love child of Anne Burrell and Guy Ferretti.

  13.  Shame on you Food Network.  You just wasted weeks of America's time in a blatant, obviously scripted spectacle to make Guarnaschelli an Iron Chef. She didn't deserve to win, and guess what?  I still don't like her.  You've given me one more reason not to watch Iron Chef. Now I'm wondering, are all of your shows this rigged?

  14. I am incredibly disappointed. Chef Freitag has made the most memorable dishes this entire season and was more creative in her homage to the secret ingredient. As Iron Chef Morimoto said, "Chef Guarnaschelli made ordinary dishes." It's inappropriate when Iron Chef Zakarian has a vote since Chef Guarnaschelli was his sous chef. When I saw that he was on the judging panel, I knew from Episode 1 that Alex was going to win. What a hollow victory. Boo.

  15. I'm glad for Alex! Weren't the top 3 all on chopped? Amanda and Alex as judges and Nate as a contestant. Since I didn't taste the food I will not comment on thinks being fixed. Jeffrey seemed to be really hard on Alex and there were 3 judges. I like to believe in this thing called integrity.

  16. Ever since Nate Appleman announced in an earlier  attempt to be an Iron Chef,  that he fabricated a story in order to win Iron Chef, ( I watched the episode; it is also on youtube) I have  not  liked him.  If you are  going to lie, then shut your  mouth and don't brag about  it.  That  indicates stupidity or social ineptitude on some level.

As to whether the show  is fixed, I would only point to the fact that any  number of shows  on the Food Network have equally questionable results, especially the "Next TV Food Star" series which has an abominable track record for success when it  comes to choosing candidates for the TV food Network Line-up.

Please remember that the best that they seem able to do is to re-run Chopped and Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives about 1000 times a week.

  17. Lost my respect for food network tonight.

  18. This was rigged!!! it was already planned that Chef Guarnaschelli would win. Chef Freitag cooked exceptional dishes the entire season! Guarnaschelli is not a bad chef, but her attitude beyond sucks! Freitag is Timid yes, but has a much better attitude and a genuine passion. I've seen Guarnaschelli make rude, pompous remarks this season on this show, as well as others. Ugh! I am extremely disappointed and feel like this entire show was planned and there was no point in watching.

  19. So chef Guarnaschelli can cook a perfect ratatouille, so can my French grandmother! She has no creativity whatsoever, the only imaginative thing she did was to use miso, which her sous chef suggested! She might be a good cook but she's not worthy of the iron chef title. After kicking out Faulkner, who was obviously the best chef in the competition, and vigneron, who was actually getting there, we had to watch a finale between chef 'play it safe', chef 'crepe or tortilla, wait that's also a kinda ' and freitag, knowing that boring pretentious bitchy Alex was gonna win anyways. Thanks FN, one less viewer next time!

  20. I am so unhappy with food network....what a rip for freitag...she should have won! The whole show was rigged and I 'll bet Alex looses a lot as an Iron chef and won 't be watching any show she is on...Can 't feel to good to know you actually did 'nt win because your a good chef..You were just choosen, planned before the series even started...Sad

  21. Wow... Well that was predictable.

  22. Guarnaschelli, really?? She is the sous chef for Geoffrey Zakarian who just happened to be one of the judges. Did anyone really think the show was not created to redeem his sous chef?Either Zakarian should have been eliminated as judge or Guarnaschelli should not have been allowed to compete. She only ever had to sway one judge in her favor so I feel the entire show was rigged.

  23. My husband and I were so disappointed to see Alex Guarmaschelli win - she does not have the upbeat and great personality needed to be an iron chef.  She is such a downer and so pretentious that she is no fun to watch.  I also predict she'll lose more times than the other iron chefs.  Amanda Freitag won more of the challenges and has grown considerably and showed she would keep growing.   - we felt she should have won over Gruarmaschelli.  I haven't a clue if the contest was rigged or not, but not Iron Chef will not be a priority viewing when Alex Guarmaschelli is challenged.

  24. the show is terrible !the original iron chef from Japan was great.I watched every episode.I have been a chef for 50 years worked all over the world and think the American version is a travesty. the next iron chef redemption's really sucks

  26. Disappointed as well. I'm not exaggerating saying I can't stomach FN anymore. Freitag competed her butt off and won challenge after challenge week after week, and did so humbly and gracefully. She is so much more interesting and watchable than Alex as well. I see where FN is headed now and it's a shame. Either way, I won't be watching anymore and I am unfortunately okay with that.

  27. Just ridiculous. Freitag, Vigneron, Mehta, Faulkne-all better chefs.

  28. Ive said it in another post that im not surprised Guarnaschelli won, I just felt this should have been a Falkner vs Freitag (w/Guarnaschelli in 3rd) battle and it would have been more impressive. After Falkner was eliminated I rooted for Freitag because she really is humble and a genuine person and especially because a lot of top female chefs have an over bearing personality to make up for the fact they are "women in a men's world" (im a guy but i think thats pretty lame because almost all top male chefs were inspired by their mothers or grandmothers that cooked so I dont get, but i do, how cooking became a semi sexist world).. Falkner had a cool personality while Freitag was the humble/sweet one.. Guarnaschelli despite having her own show, being well liked judge of mine on chopped, and being one of my faves of season 4 of NIC; somehow lost a lot of her appeal since then and on this season it felt they were letting her get by easily.. given that half the cast were people we expected to be eliminated early, I just felt at times they were harder on Falkner because she was the runner up last season and easier on Guarnaschelli than they should have been.. And I just dont get the final decision Freitag clearly stepped it up this season (way more memorable moments than her original run on 2nd season) and personality-wise was the greatest. It sucks she lost in the end. Also add the fact Guarnaschelli had more practice experience as Zakarian's sous chef this past year (also remember she was the extra aid to both Zakarian and Falkner in their final battle last season) so it just seems to be an obvious unfair advantage.

In the end hooray for finally having another female Iron Chef (alhough I think of Anita Lo and Susan Fenniger and a few other female chefs being stronger than Guarnaschelli but have never been on a NIC competition) but its a shame it wasnt Freitag or Falkner.

  29. Just watched the season (my first time).  I wouldn't do it again.  Alex was mediocre at best throughout the season. Never won a challenge, only in the top 3 once.  As others have said, not at all creative and couldn't pull off many of her dishes; and she should have been in the bottom two in an additional two challenges.

BTW - who the heck is that "chairman" dude?  Very strange...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The chairman is the nephew of the original Chairman for the original Japanese version and i guess hes also been in some movies .... Sorry I forget his name though!

Alex only won the first challenge and then seemingly avoided the bottom (although there were times perhaps she should have been just lucked out that others did worse than her) But I agree compared to her 4th season run she was rather lackluster and it felt as if she waited til Kitchen Stadium to bust out her best while Amanda (and Elizabeth) seemed like they were busting their best every week so it sucked seeing Amanda lose in the end.. she held it together since Alex is her colleague but you could still tell she was pissed off as well and I would be too (not as pissed as Falkner was I dont think anyone else had as angry of an exit as Falkner did).

  30. I think Amanda Freitag should've won, because, clearly, her main course, at, The Last Supper, was, superior, to, Alex's main course...Alex's dessert seemed to have blown the judges away, so, both chefs deserved to win...However, I think Amanda deserved it more, and, was, clearly, disappointed that her expectations of winning weren't realized...That must've left a very "bitter taste, in her mouth"...Lastly, it was obvious, that, Bobby, was biased, in favour of Alex, whose FN show, "Alex's Day Off", he produces...He criticized Amanda's dishes, but, praised Alex's dishes...While, I think, that, Alex is a great chef, I think Amanda is better...She should've won!

  31. The cast of judges chosen, for, the final judging, ought not to have been...A set of judges should've been chosen, that, had no Food Network connections...That way, the final decision, no matter what that was, would've been seen as unbiased and fair...Bobby Flay produces Alex G's show, "Alex's Day Off", and, she was Iron Chef Jeffrey Zakarian's sous chef...How then could it have been fair to have Bobby and Jeffrey, as, judges?...Morimota said he preferred Amanda's main course, and, Amanda won far more challenges than Alex, yet, Alex won...Something smells very fishy!

  32. The thing seemed rigged from the start.

  33. Food Network used to be credible and over the years has succumbed to a money making inbred group of partipants. Shame on them for eliminating Elzabeth Faulkener. This show should truly be a vehicle for bringing the best of the best to the forefront in the culinary world. It feels contrived and fixed. Heartbreaking!
This is obviously about business, marketing and growing the Food Network brand......cruises, products etc

  34. I know many think it was unfair for Zakarian to be a judge.. but someone brought a good point that Flay was the producer of Guarnaschelli's show and during final judging Flay was OBVIOUSLY more biased than the other judges for Alex to win and I lost the little respect I have for him (he wasnt even letting Amanda get a good comment in). Zakarian was somewhat fair in his judging but did lean towards Alex for the win. It seems that Morimoto and Donatella may have been the only ones supporting Freitag's creativity and fearlessness to win and I just wished Symon and Mujumdar would have gone the same... Actually I wish the finals werent just based on that final battle cos Amanda was clearly better overall and Alex just waited for the end to bring her strongest dishes. Guh I mean were over it but really this was obviously the most jacked up season of NIC

  35. I lost interest when Elizabeth was sent home.  I think Guarnaschelli is a fine Chef, but not Iron Chef.  Come one... One cherry tart with chillies does not make an Iron Chef...

    ReplyDelete
  36. it's fixed!  I personally don't like Alex nor do I think she is a better chef than the others.  Falkner should have been the winner.  One more reason not to watch Iron Chef anymore.  If the producers/FN had any brains at all they would've gone with popular vote.  At least more people will tune in. Instead of nepotism.

  37. Agreed! And how many Iron Chefs do you need?
